Mr. Ruben Navarrette, Jr is right!!!!

By Pete, September 3, 2010 3:37 p09

Well, who would have thunk it….Me agreeing with Mr. Navarrette…American citizens do not want to pick strawberries…He is absolutely correct…We don’t like hard work….strawberries, chilies, onions, apples, any work for field hands we do not like….We are so thankful for the Mexican citizens or anyone else who is willing to do those jobs….Only thing, they need to come through the door legally…have green cards…If we need to revamp the system to let more through, then lets do it…I worked with some Mexican green card holders at the potash mines in Carlsbad, NM years ago….they were hard workers, fun loving, easy going, friendly and God fearing…they are a special people…But they got to have a green card Mr. Navarrette….otherwise they are law breakers….I don’t want to pick strawberries either and will not as long as there is another way to put food on the table…Let’s keep plenty of workers in the USA legally so we don’t have to….

San Jose State/Alabama Football

By Pete, September 2, 2010 3:37 p09

San Jose St is playing Bama at Bama…..I am sorry Spartans, but the Tide is gonna sweep you all the way from Tuscaloosa to Mobile, right on out into the gulf, then you guys are gonna swim out of that mess and go on up to Madison, WI and the Badgers are gonna chew you up. Then a breather with Southern Utah and then the Utah Utes are gonna scalp you. But I have to hand it to you guys, you got guts…you need to fire your football scheduler…Alabama, Wisconsin, Utah, Nevada, Boise St, Fresno St and then some other pretty tough teams….You will probably get beat but you dang sure don’t shy away from the big boys, do you?…..

Autzen Stadium, Eugene, OR.

The Lobos will be playing the no. 11th ranked Oregon in Eugene, Sept 4. The Lobos are a 34 point underdog, they say….This is a hostile place to play according to many who have played there. Quoted by the Albuquerque Journal, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said, “It’s a very hostile environment, I can tell you that.”….One of the reason I think the Oregon fans are hostile is that it is a 54,000 seat capacity stadium and they routinely stack about 58,544 in it for the games…No wonder they all are pissed, over 8% of the people are stacked two to a seat….I would be hostile also, they can’t sit down, so they stand up and take it out on the poor slobs down on the field that had nothing to do with ticket sales…Some things in our favor, Oregon plays Tennessee at Tennessee Sept 11, so two things…One, They are thinking about powerful Tennessee and not the lowly Lobos and two, they are not going to use everything in their play book as they don’t want Tennessee to know everything they do…Two or three basic plays should take care of the Lobos is what Oregon may be thinking…You know, they probably will win the game, but I sure hope we can keep it closer than 34 points…Lobos, pull out some Ducks tail feathers, ok?…Who gives a quack about how many feathers you pull is what I thinking…..Pull feathers and howl…..Go Lobos

BYU an independent?

By Pete, September 1, 2010 3:37 p09

Well sir, BYU did not follow the advice of TCU about going independent..which was, don’t do it…..Some of those Mormon’s are pretty hard headed and stubborn….that said, most of them are astute business men, so they probably have it all worked out…They were always a tough opponent and they kicked the Lobo’s butt a time or two…Probably just as well they are going….I hope this year the Lobos can give them a going away present, one that they will remember a long time….Make them glad they are leaving, ok Lobos?….Let’s do it….Go Lobos…They play us Nov 20 in Provo, Utah and they play Utah, Nov 27 at Salt Lake City….Get this, they will be looking past the lowly Lobos to the Utah Utes….We gonna whop’um….Mark my word……

Pleasant Surprise

By Pete, August 31, 2010 3:37 p08

Some of the people I used to work with were in town last night and invited me out for dinner. What a nice surprise and pleasant evening. We rehashed old times and they brought me up to date on the happenings within the organization lately. You know, they did not have to do that, but I am sure glad they did…So, gentlemen, if you should happen to read this, THANKS ever so much….You made this old man’s day….

A beautiful e-mail

By Pete, August 30, 2010 3:37 p08

I don’t know the people who wrote this but a friend sent it to me and with blurry eyes I posted it here. The picture did not come through of a little girl hugging her dog. Sorry about that, but the words will still touch you…Pete

This is one of the kindest things you may ever see..

It is not known who replied, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office of the   US postal service.

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey.. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words:

Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick.
I hope you will play with her.. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Meredith

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it.. Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, ‘To Meredith’ in an unfamiliar hand.. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, ‘When a Pet Dies..’ Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey &Meredith and this note:

Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven.
Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.
Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.
Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you.
I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much.
By the way, I’m easy to find, I am wherever there is love.

Love,
God

Crock Pot Tortilla Soup w/Hatch Green Chilies

By Pete, August 28, 2010 3:37 p08

Recipe: Crock Pot Tortilla Soup with HATCH Green Chile Enchilada Sauce

1 1/2 pounds cooked shredded chicken
1 15 oz. can diced tomatoes
1 14 oz. can HATCH Green Chile Enchilada Sauce
2 4 oz. cans HATCH Diced Green Chiles
1 15 oz. can pinto beans, drained
1 medium onion, chopped
2 tbsp minced garlic
2 cups water
1 15 oz. can chicken broth
2 tsp each: cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper (or to taste)
1 15 oz. can corn, drained
2  tbsp cilantro, chopped

In crock pot, combine all ingredients except cilantro and garnish. Cover and cook for 6-8 hours. Cheddar and/or Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream and avocado for garnish.

To serve: Spoon into deep bowls and garnish with cheese, sour cream and avocado as desired. Tortillas or chips may be served on the side.

Toss it or keep it: Oh my gosh, keep this recipe. My husband and I agreed that this soup is better than most restaurant versions we’ve had. I ate two bowls and wanted to lick them clean. Depending on your kids palate, it might be a bit spicy.

I hope your grocer carries the Hatch Brand…If not fuss at him until he will…It’s gooooood…….

Investments/play like

By Pete, August 27, 2010 3:37 p08

Today I am starting a new game….I am playing like I am investing in Western Refinery, El Paso, TX….They have a refinery in El Paso, a refinery in Cinza, NM (near Gallup, NM),  a refinery in Yorktown, VA, fuel terminals in Albuquerque and Bloomfield, NM and Flagstaff, AZ, asphalt terminals in El Paso, Albuquerque, Tucson and Phoenix, AZ, a fleet of tank trucks and a host of nice c-stores…They were one of my accounts while working and I know a lot of the employees….price per share at closing on 8/26/10 was 4.11 per share….ok, so I am buying 1000 shares or 4110.00 in play like money….I will hold it at least 30 days, then sell, buy or hold….care to join me in my play like investments….you can choose anyone you like, Wal-mart, Wells Fargo, Intel…..whoever…lets see if we would have made any money….I hope Mr. Foster and Mr. Stevens will not let me down on my hard earned, play like, investment dollars sunk into Western Refinery…

Dang Border Patrol

By Pete, August 26, 2010 3:37 p08

Did you read in this morning paper about the Border Patrol Agent riding home from El Paso to Las Cruces on his motorcycle….He hit a stray dog out on the interstate and wrecked. A fellow in a Dodge Ram stopped in the nick of time to avoiding hitting him. The fellow got out of the pickup, checked to see if the agent was still alive, I reckon, then got back into his pickup and proceeded ….Yes, he did, he ran right over the agent with his pickup….take that border patrol he said…..gosh, what’s up with that…there are some cold blooded people in this world, huh….This was a gringo, evidently a bad-a– dude…..The agent has survived so far…yesterday was not a good day for him….I hope they catch the guy in the Dodge Ram….He is mean….

El Paso/Mexico

This morning paper stated that bullets were whizzing up from Mexico, across the river into El Paso. It stated that it was shooting between Mexican citizens, but who can say. No one was hit this time…. Surely the Mexican President can do something about the lawlessness of his citizens.  I thought he ruled the country with an iron hand and he seems to know how the United States should conduct our business, so he must be pretty smart.  He needs to come up with some method of control, like putting some guards on the border to keep the drugs from coming through into the United States. Stop the flow…..That’s it….I think I know where he can get about 12 million people, huh?
