College Football!!!

I have followed football every year and I try to keep up with all the teams. Of course, you have your Alabama, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma, LSU and many, many others….all the top teams I know about, some lesser one I followed, Rice, Buffalo, Ball State, Louisiana Tech, etc, but all of a sudden, from nowhere comes some teams that just pops on the scene and schedules the top teams in the nation….How do they do that?… I’m talking about two specifically, Fla. International and Fla. Atlantic…look at this, Fla. Int plays Alabama, Rutgers, Toledo, Troy, Florida…to name a few and Fla Atlantic plays Nebraska, S. Carolina, Wyoming, UAB and Troy to name a few…Who are these guys and how do they schedule the big boys right out of the chute…..Maybe they have been around for a long time and we just don’t hear about them out here…I did hear about them back last year, but that is still very fast for this schedule…please tell me about them if you know…Pete

These lovely people are spouses of the cousins, except one, my sister-in-law is the one peeking over a shoulder third from left. Two or three of the spouses did not attend, including mine. It was certainly nice seeing them all. They are a pretty good good looking bunch, huh?

My favorite day of the week, for years, has been Friday. Today, I woke up thinking that it was Friday and the happiness that the thought that this day used to provoke was missing. It’s just another day. That’s terrible….just terrible….I’m going to talk to the boss about giving me Saturday and Sunday off so I can get back to enjoying Friday….But, I don’t know…she may want to talk pay cut…..I’ll think on it some more……Retirement kind’a screws up things….

Fishing, Catch and Release!!

You know, I was telling one of my Alabama cousins about the catch and release program in New Mexico, you know where you use barb-less hooks and turn the fish loose after you have caught it. He says, “Why would you do that? Catching fish to eat is what it’s all about, right,” he says to me. You know, having Alabama roots myself, I kind’a agree that if I’m lucky enough to catch one I want to eat it also. I was reading in the Albuquerque Journal that Penny Frick of Albuquerque caught a 20 inch, 1 1/2 pounds, on the Rio Chama and released it. Well, it also said  at Stone Lake a fellow, from San Antonio, TX,  landed a 22 inch Rainbow that weighted 5 1/2 pounds…..Did not say a word about that boy releasing his catch….I reckon he also has some Alabama in his background somewhere, huh?,,,,,

Coach Nutt has done a great job down at Ole Miss, huh? ….It seems as though things are shaping up for a show down Oct. 10…Ole Miss in going to be 4 – 0 (I think) and Bama is going to be 5 – 0…From all accounts, Bama better come to play….a home game for Ole Miss…Ole Miss surprised me last year beating Texas Tech, a pretty good team….So Bama, bring your A game..Several battles shaping up down there…I ain’t talking about Florida….yet

Working, For Free..

While out walking yesterday afternoon late,  my neighbor and her little girl were out in the yard. We have known this young lady since she was an infant, now 7 or 8…I called her name and asked what she was doing….She said, “I am working….for free.” Her mother and I got a big laugh out of it…Well, this morning while pulling the grass from the flower bed, it hit me, “I’m working…for free” But, when I smelled the breakfast being cooked up in our kitchen, I decided that maybe I was working for a credit…Credit for a free breakfast, fixed at no charge…The give and take of life is really a treasure, don’t you think?….

We have friends that moved from Albuquerque to Houston a couple of years ago. They spent most of their life in Albuquerque. I was speaking with them a few days ago and mentioned to them that early morning one could now feel fall in the air. She said, “you know, I really miss the four seasons,”… and you know what, I would miss the four seasons also. I tried the last few mornings to leave the patio door open to the kitchen while sitting at the kitchen table reading the morning paper. I can’t…..It too dang cool, almost cold….Of course, mid-day, and we still have some pretty good temperatures…weather man says its our dry air…well, I am glad it finally got back..For awhile there I thought the dry air was going to get stuck over Alabama and Georgia….Man, I like dry and brown….

It may surprise you folks, but I have been writing on my novel….some….You know I told you about my main man learning how to dance….Well, he got one dance under his belt, so to speak and then “them dang old rustlers” showed up again, messing up the dance making all the young men mad, etc…But my main man got a kiss before he left the ranch chasing “them dang old rustlers”…..I don’t know, this may turn into a romance novel before its all over…It could go either way, you know “cause right now he’s ain’t really a fighter, but on the other hand, he ain’t a lover yet either…..

Grandsons, Niece and Nephews

IMG_1245Another picture from the reunion.  The three starting at the left of the picture are my brothers grandchildren and the two boys to the left of the picture are two of my three grandsons. My other grandson just graduated from NMSU and had just started a new job and could not join us. I have two granddaughters, one in Tucson who already has two degrees and is studying for the third (some form of nursing or health care) and another here in Albuquerque who is studying to be a nurse (I don’t know how many degrees she has but she has been going to school a long time). My brothers grand kids are a high schooler, a student at the University of Alabama and the young lady is a graduate the University of Alabama and is presently enrolled at UAB in nuclear medicine and I would be lying to you if I tried to tell you exactly. And it may be the same thing my grand daughter is studying out in Tucson, but maybe they will write in with comments to verify what it is they are studying…..and girls, boys don’t count for studying……by the way, my grandsons are both plumbers….and they are good handy men at any construction site, they are hard workers and extremely good boys (and not just cause they are my grandsons)…They have helped me on two different jobs we had going around here and they proved themselves to me….I certainly could not keep up…

Social Security Insurance

I may be one of the lucky ones….I am drawing some of the money that I have paid into Federal Old Age Retirement….I paid all my working life and now I am reaping benefits from some of those labors…I hope my children will be as fortunate as me, that there will be money left to assist them in their old age, but I can’t help but wonder about it….Just how many dollars are a trillion?…How long does it take to accumulate a trillion dollars?…If there are 300 million Americans and we each donated 1,000 dollars, what is that?, 300 billion and my calculator will not go that high and all ten fingers and toes don’t help…Do our congressmen have calculators that will register that many zeros?….You know folks, that may be the problem…They don’t know how much a trillion dollars are either….
