Ukraine, 2nd in hits on Hesterbooks.com

The United States is the leading reader of hesterbooks.com so far this month with 8180 hits and that is way behind a few months ago before I left for a while. The Ukraine is second with 660 hits. That surprises me as I don’t think I have posted much that might be of interest to that nation. But, I sure don’t know. I know nothing about Ukraine. I don’t know if they want to self govern, be controlled by Russia or a big spit over which way to go, which seems to me where they are. If some of you folks can and will weigh in on this subject I would appreciate it. All of you can use the name, say, Jabonski or Babenski,  or some other good old Irish name, I would just like some of your comments. I heard CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, and even sometimes the BBC but I have not heard from a real Ukrainian. Tell us, ok?…….

America’s Soldiers…..God Bless Them…

Here he comes to save the day….Superman could leap tall building, stop speeding trains and I don’t know what all else….Fiction, huh?….America can stop villains everywhere, anytime, anyplace in the world?…Well, that too is fiction…When I got out of high school, I was a hawk…When I was in my late twenties and early thirties, I was a hawk…as my boys matured and became of age to fight wars my knees buckled at the thought of losing one of them in battle and I suppose, no, I know, that if America was attacked by anyone, fighting is the order of the day….But as I see the lack of respect of nations for America, even though we give them aide and fight for them, and they burn our flag, it turns my stomach…and I don’t want one American boy to die for those that could care less about them, their families, their country or their God….Yes, I am pretty much becoming an isolationist. We are the mightiest nation on the face of the earth, but folks, I am tired of seeing our boys shot to pieces, losing legs and arms and eyes for people who don’t even care…..I’m tired of crying with my neighbors as wives and children wait for daddy to come home and he never does….I’m tired of being tired…..I think it has to stop, especially in those countries that for the most part hate America…..God Bless America

Washington Redskins…rename them please…

The Washington Redskins are not nearly fierce enough to be named the Redskins. I mean to the early frontiersman the term Redskin sent shivers into their very heart, knowing they were about to be under attack from the Redskins and they were correct to have that fear. Those guys were tough and skillful and the paleface were invading their territory. “You are not wanted here” the message was sent to them all. Yet the Paleface kept coming, but the Redskins never quit fighting, well, for a long time anyway. And the one that did, Geronimo and his tribe, were kept prisoner for 27 long years because he did not want to surrender. The United States of America did not want to have to fight Geronimo, the most bad azz Redskin to ever walk the earth, again, ever….He struck fear into the hearts of Mexicans and Americans in the Southwestern parts of the United States and Northwest Mexico. Yes sir, those guys were Redskins, fierce and rock solid leaders: Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull, Mangas Colorado, Cochise, Victorio, Nana, and even, Lozen, the daughter of Victorio, who claimed she could outfight any of his other warriors…Yes sir, Redskins all. The Washington Redskins are not tough enough to carry the name Redskin. I don’t blame the Native Americans for being pissed…Dad barn bunch of lazy sissies being called a football team. And if the Vikings don’t pick it up a bunch of folks across the sea is gonna be pissed at them and demand a name change….. And, the Cowboys, man, up in Montana and Wyoming they roll their eyes when the Cowboy football team is mentioned. …..If I were a Native American, a descendent of one of those fierce and great and famous leaders of the tribes of America, I would be proud to have a team named after the bunch of heroes called Redskin….But I would want that team to reflect the heart and soul of my people….Go Redskins….E. V. Pete Hester

ps: some more famous Redskins: George Allen, Joe Gibbs, LaVar Arrington, Sammy Baugh, Larry Brown, Sam Huff, Sonny Jurgenson (who I patterned my gut after), Billy Kilmer, Dexter Manly, Art Monk, John Riggins, Joe Theismann and many, many more. They were fierce warriors also….ps….I re-read my posting here and wondered if you knew I was for the Washington Redskins keeping their name…Yes, I am…It is not a hurtful to anyone. I wanted to make a point that the name Redskin was a feared name in the annals of history. It is in no way derogatory or demeaning. Please get over it, folks, its a good name…..

KIRTLAND AFB Jet Fuel Spill…Just will not go away…

The people at Kirtland Air Force Base still have not done anything to retrieve the 8 million gallons of spilled jet fuel that has reached the Albuquerque aquifer and is spreading toward the city wells. They have told the city that they would do this, and then that, and then something else and after numerous years of promises not one gallon, I say, not one gallon of the spill has been retrieved. WONDERFUL…..Tomorrow, we will take care of it tomorrow….and then tomorrow comes and they have a new base commander who will look into it and get back to us….WE ARE GETTING TIRED OF THE FALSE PROMISES, PEOPLE…. I guess you guys at the base are  planning to go back  east or wherever there is plenty of good clean water, huh….Well, its in short supply here and we need you to get off your butts and take care of business.  Do you hear us, Mr. Base Commander? Do we need to get our congressman to get off his duff and talk to you about it. What lights your fire, sir? The time has come…..You have your marching orders, Sir, now: FORWARD, MARCH…..

Serial Killer on Essex Street

I have mentioned several times that I feed and water birds in my back yard. This provides a buffet for a dang old Cooper Hawk. He gets up in the pine tree in my back yard and attacks an unsuspecting victim while they are watering or feeding. He is only doing what the Lord put him on earth to do, and I kind of accept that, but I am very sympatric to the smaller birds. Once he zero’s in on his prey it’s pretty much over. He is very fast and very silent. In mere seconds he leaves his perch and has the prey in his talons. And he goes back up into the tree to eat his meal spreading the feathers all over my yard. He is not there every day, but pretty regular.. See if you can see this killer perched in my back yard pine tree….click to enlarge..(click on the second branch up at the fork and you can see him)PS… Go to   www.wildlife.state.nm.us   for a nice article on Cooper Hawks…Good articles on transplanting wildlife and fowl in NM and Arizona…Also articles on fishing in NM during the drought…branson trip with phyllis 084

Vallecito Reservoir, Colo

012The water level is so high at Vallecito that it is about to lap over into Croll Cabin’s property. The extra water is playing havoc with the leach field of their septic tanks. The wind picked up a couple of days while we were there causing the water to splash over the berm that protects the property. They have a new Dam Master up there and he apparently does not think about any damage the high water level may be causing. Here is a picture of his sign from this year. If you scroll down the page you will see last year and how low it was. This water is used for irrigation for the Southern Ute Tribe and they are not needing the water just yet. They really need to do something with the excess. A good rain up in those mountains surrounding the reservoir would be a killer.

Well, if you remember me telling you about Croll Cabins, then you know where I am and what I am doing. No. 1 son could not make it and No. 3 son could not make it. Otherwise all the Hester boys and grand sons are up there, in laws as well. No girls, just us boys….We had a vote and the girls voted not go with us…I ain’t lying…they turned us down flat….They said we know you guys, “ya’ll will go out fishing and expect us to clean the fish, do the cooking, wash the dishes, the heck with ya’ll, we gonna stay home and rest.”. And I ain’t gonna say nothing else about that…See you later…

Mississippi..Fed’s Marijuana stash, a suppository sucker?….

Albuquerque Journal, Sunday June 8, 2014 article,  “Mississippi, home to feds’ official marijuana stash by Evan Halper, Tribune Washington Bureau…Dateline Oxford, Mississippi….Inside a steel vault there are marijuana buds packed into thousands of baggies filed in bankers boxes. Fifty pound barrels are brimming with dried ready-to-smoke weed. Freezers are stocked with buckets of potent cannabis extracts.  Large metal canisters sit, crammed full of hundreds of perfectly rolled joints. Even marijuana trash, contaminated garbage that thiefs might try to steal. …..It is the most impressive stockpile of marijuana and probably the most controversial…..What makes the cannabis here on the campus of University of Mississippi unique is that it is grown, processed and sold by the federal government. The stockpile represents the only source of pot allowed for researchers who want to conduct FDA-approved tests on using marijuana for medical purposes. …DEA must give the go ahead on any researchers using the stash……Now, this is me talking now, not the government or the University of Mississippi….One of the scientist down there says you have to smoke or chew the marijuana to get a hgh, only those entries into the human body will make you high…So he says…Now he is proposing a suppository form of the cannabis for medical purposes so folks will not be using it to get high…..How long, I ask, how long before that suppository is sugar coated and stuck on a stick and every college kid in  American will be running around sucking on a suppository….Doctor, are you sure that’s what you want to do with that extract?….Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you……

Children Migrants, thousands of them…

“Hundreds of undocumented immigrants, mostly from Central America, are held in U.S. Border Patrol facilities in the Rio Grande Valley along the U.S./Mexico border in late May 2014. Photos were obtained by Breitbart. Photo: Courtesy, Breitbart Texas” /> Now, the question is “what are we going to do with them”? This problem has become a real dilemma for the USA. President Obama needs to address this issue immediately. This appears to be children of all ages. This is only one of several photos and only one of several locations having a group of migrant children. To President Obama and to Congress I ask for swift action. We need interaction of the other countries involved in this. The cost of caring for these children should not fall on the United States alone. But, they must be cared for….I hope others of you will join the efforts to get our government moving.  UPDATE…..This mornings paper (June 7) stated that 47,000 migrant children were being held at two military bases in the United States…Many of them from Central America…How in the world did they make that journey? It is amazing they even survived the journey from Central America to our southern border…God help us with this decision….

Muddy a slough

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 25-06-2009

Our trip to Alabama is gonna be quick. We have so much already lined up to do. I wish I had time to show my grandsons how to muddy a slough. You can still do that, can’t you? Or has the State of Alabama changed it fishing rules? Surely not, thats unAmerican. That used to be my favorite way to fish. You know how, don’t you? Take some type of paddle and stir up the water in the slough until it is muddy as it can get. Pretty soon those old fish try to come up for some air, then you take your paddle and slap them out of the water. One of you go around gathering them up….Be careful and don’t stick your finger in an old jacks mouth ’cause some fingers look like a big fat worm… I’ll tell my boys, but that may be something to do on the next visit…I sure hope its still legal….

ps…Linda Bonner Beachler, your daddy Virgil did get his thumb in a jack’s mouth one day and did that dang fish do a number on his thumb. But, being the trouper that he was, he wrapped it and went on……
