Rain, Rain!!!!
I love rain. Once or twice a month is great. But rain gets in the way or have you noticed? My wipers only gets used this time of year and every year seems like they are falling apart. They sit on my windshield, doing nothing, then when I need them they are ready to be replaced. Do they make Monsoon wipers? Wipers you use for the season, then you don’t use them until next season? Then they still work? Well, that’s what we need around here. How do folks make it where it rains all the time and they have to worry about flooding and high water and all that kind of stuff? But you probably wonder how we handle the blowing dust and sand. But really, I do love rain and I hope we get some again next year……
Another record….
My friends, let me thank you for visiting my site. I cannot believe how the number of visits have risen since changing to WordPress. This month is not over, but every record has been broken already, nay, let me change that to shattered already. And even visits from foreign countries, too numerous for me to list here, have risen greatly. Thank you so much for visiting and I would love for you to leave me a comment….I appreciate it….
Sports writers hang ups!!!!!!
I listened to a sports show today singing the praises of the SEC. And they are a very good conference, I cannot take anything away from them. On and on went the praise, better than the Big 10 and Big 12, etc, etc…… He mentioned Wyoming as in the WAC or Mountain West or somewhere way out there..Gag, Gag…Did he sleep during the Sugar Bowl?… Sometimes when people cannot see the mountains for the trees its like the mountain do not exist…I know the other conferences have to be more consistent, but come on, there are other people who play football and play it well….And I have been singing the praises of the Mountain West, so come on boys and don’t let me down this year…..OK?….
Sons: No 1, No 2 and No 3
No. 1 son got back from the Bahamas and did not have as much fun as originally antipicated. He got an eye infection and spent about 3 hours on a boat with very limited vision. But he finally got well and did better the next few days. He said he was sweating under the air conditioner..He said it was extremely hot and seems glad to be back in Carlsbad America. No. 3 son got back from the Cayman Islands and echoed what no. 1 said, hotter than blazes. Plus, he and his darling got out about 500 yards from the shore and the tide was against them. While trying to get back he grabbed a sea urchin while pushing toward shore…..wrong thing to grab as their spines are on ball joints and swivel toward whatever touches them….it hurts me even to write about it, but he says the barbs are protein and the body will soon absorb them….boy, I hope so…I didn’t ask, but do your barbs stick folks now when you shake hands?…..I just wondered….No. 2 son came by from work today, all rested and ready for another Alabama trip. And ready for work now…We need some of that Alabama/Georgia weather around here. The weather map has gone crazy. The southeast is having southwest weather…..no fair…I prayed for good weather, but I did not intend for God to leave it down there….I’m back now, Lord…Thank you for listening….
Cousins Reunion of 2009
You know what I did? I did not take a camera to Alabama with me. Some of them promised to send me some pictures and I hope they remember….I am not going to call any names, I am sure I will see them shortly. When I get them I will try to post a copy on the this site so you can see for yourself what a beautifu…..what a gorg……what we look like….no, I’m kidding, a beauiful family and a loving family…Pictures made right there in downtown Coal Fire…The cousins are just a few years older than the picture posted earlier on this site. At the bottom of each page you see the word “older” and that takes you to additional posts.View the cousins there…. Any of the cousins that can e-mail the pictures, that would be great. Send to pete@hesterbooks.com …..thanks a bunch, Pete
Do some writing??
I tell myself I am suppose to be writing a novel and some of the time I believe it. Other times, its like I’m lying….I have a guy, my main fellow, who is going to be a gun fighter, get this, in love and learning how to dance!!!! What kind of a western writer am I turning into, pray tell? Well, you probably have seen enough movies to know which way this is heading in my mind. Question, do you think you know?….Well, don’t bet on it…I have tried the outlines, etc and once my old fingers get going, words pop up on the computer and I wonder “where in the crap did that come from?” You remember Andy in “The Saga of Zachary Williams”? I loved his character and all of a sudden, before I could stop my fingers, the guy is dead. I could not believe that I allowed that to happen in my story,to that guy, who I was really enjoying…. I guess that is why I say writing is for the writers and if the readers like it, great……And I think I have a name for this novel….maybe…..well, sort of……I will think on it a good bit more….
Reunion/Braves/3500 miles/Butts dragging!!!!
Hey my friends…The reunion was great…so good to see all my cousins and family…My tribe seems to age, er, make that matures well..The girls were all so pretty and the guys, well, looking pretty good I reckon. Was that a good time or what? And how about the food…That was great. And again, we thank Coal Fire Baptist Church for the use of their fellowship hall. Very nice accommodations. Because of chiggers, I did not want to wade through the grass and brush to get to Coal Fire Creek. Several of you told me it was still cold and that is good enough for me….. The Hester boys are 2 – 0 watching the Braves. We got to Atlanta in time for the Mets game Sunday night, staying within walking distance of Turner Field. We had a great time. You know, we had the ten buck seats on Sunday, just beyond third base then straight up to the nose bleed section, but they were surprisingly good seats. Braves won!!!! Monday night we were 9 rows up behind the Braves dugout, right in foul ball territory. No. 1 grandson stuck his big left paw out and deflected the ball away from his gramps…..I told him I could have caught it. I don’t think he believed me. It hit a lady behind us who was protecting her daughter and left my grandson nursing a sore finger. I want the thank him as that ball had some zip on it and it could have hit me. I think it was Diaz who hit that sucker and really, it was aimed at my bald head. Well, it was a good game and the Braves won!!!!!! …..We talked about going down to Florida, but it was the grandsons who nixed that. Their wallets were still thick but their butts were thin, I think. It was a good trip…. Now Back to business. Let me hear from you at pete@hesterbooks.com.. ….By the way, the weather was so beautiful. Even the announcers for the Braves were commenting on how nice it was and comparing it to San Diego and I concur…..It was absolutely great……Pete
