College Football Picks…2018

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 26-08-2018

Ok, I did not do football picks last year and I don’t know why, but I think I will again this year….six teams all year and probably two more random picks that have peaked my interest for various reasons. The six every week will be:

Alabama….State of my birth and the first team I ever followed. Bart Starr was one of my heroes. Probably I’ll have a W after Bama all season as I don’t see any one on the schedule that I think can beat them this year.

Arizona….My daughter and her family live in Tucson and my grand daughter is a graduate of U of A and works in the U of A Cancer Center.

New Mexico….Albuquerque is where I live. I’m a Lobo fan….Win or lose, I’m a fan. They do the best they can with what they have and play a pretty good brand of ball while they are at it.

New Mexico State….I went to school at NMSU-Carlsbad and there are three or four of my family who are graduates or attendees of NMSU main campus.

Texas Tech….A good school close to Carlsbad and in years past I attended many games in Lubbock and a lot of the students from Eastern New Mexico chose to go to school there. A good school…

Wisconsin….Yeah, I know….but I have a son who lives up in the colder climate of Madison and I hope it warms him some to know his old Papa is rooting for the Badgers. He likes football but his real passion is basketball and is a season ticket holder.

Every week several schools perks us up so I will be picking schools here and there to also pick.  For Sept 1st I am choosing Boise State – Troy and Hawaii – Navy…..

I’ll have all the picks on the site in the next couple of days….

Grandparents Again…..

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 21-08-2018

Well, we are grandparents again….We have had this dang squirrel running around in our yard for weeks. I have tried everything to get rid of him….Well, come to find out, it’s a her…This morning five or six little squirrels were running all around our yard…and yes, they were cute…but I went to Home Depot and bought a trap anyway. Now, if I can catch them, I need to figure out where to dump them. I wonder if the zoo area would be ok? We have a park down the street, but that’s too close. I don’t know, maybe down along the river. But there, they would probably die of thirst…..I don’t know yet, first I have to trap the little suckers……

Hester Clan, Group Photo of Fishermen, 2018

Here we all are on our last night at Croll’s Cabins for our 2018 fishing trip. Water was extremely low, fishing was extremely good, fishermen were extremely happy.

From left, Zach, Joe, Jeff, Pete, Josh, Logan, Dylan, Lyndon.

Best fisherman this year was probably a tie between Josh and Lyndon with a slight edge to Lyndon the for big salmon he caught…however, the pike Josh caught was probably the biggest, sooooo, the debate goes on.

Fishing Trip, 2018…Our Newest Fisherman

Logan Trower, son of Zach Trower and grandson of our daughter Phyllis. I’m not sure all of these are his, however, he  caught lots of fish and he caught the first fish of all of us. We are proud of you Logan….Good job.

Hester Boy’s Fishing Trip, 2018 Vallecito Reservoir, Colorado

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 07-08-2018

The top picture was made in 2013 from Croll’s Cabins. The bottom picture is from 2018. The reservoir is down 32 feet this year. Management let water out to do some maintenance expecting a large snow melt  and it never happened this year. So, not a lot of water but same amount of fish and they were hungry. Our fishing trip was very successful.
