New Mexico Lobos Men’s Basketball Team….

Disappointing…yes…No NCAA this year…No NIT this year…Well, we could win it all at the MWC tournament this year in Las Vegas and make it, but that’s highly unlikely as we would have to win them all…Teams that we could not beat in regular season and we lost another player with a broken hand last week. We have our top players sitting on the bench, injured….We play extremely good defense, we just don’t have any real good shooters left…The one we do have is guarded by a couple of people so it is hard for him to get a good shot off….Well, “wait ’til next year”… we won our last game against a good Wyoming team and played very tough, breaking a eight game losing streak…but you know what, even with the losing streak, the boys played before sell out crowds, 15,000 plus …And you can say, “well, there is nothing else to do in Albuquerque”, but that is just not true…The truth is the Albuquerque folks love their basketball Lobos….They also love the Lady Lobos, who by the way finished tied for first place in the conference and may go on to further tournament play, draw about 6000 fans a game….We will be pulling for the Lady Lobos the rest of this year but I think our boys are about finished for this season…… Let me mention that down south at Las Cruces, New Mexico State Aggies won the WAC conference and will be playing in the Big Dance, representing the State of New Mexico and we will be cheering them on. I think they finally have all of their boys healthy for a change….Go Aggies…

Go! Go! Lobos! It is simply not true that there is nothing else to do in Albuquerque. I lived on KAFB for four years and always found much more to do in the little time that I had off than there was time to do it, and this was 50 years ago when Albuquerque had barely a population of 300,000 and was essentially a town 20 miles long and three blocks wide stretching along historic Route 66 (Central Avenue). I did alot of hiking and bicycle riding, both of which are very time consuming, but anyone with only a little imagination can find lots to do in Albuquerque and the surrounding area. The truth is Albuquerque is, and has always been, a basketball town. I don’t know why that is true when the South generally favors football. I guess it is because so many people from the North have chosen to settle there over the years. Go Lobos! Root for the Aggies during your down time. There is always next year.

Next year is shaping up as a good one for basketball and football…Our baseball team is doing good and our golf team is usually pretty good as well. The Lady Lobos will go on to some tournament play this year, I’m sure…
