Winter Has Begun, So OK, That’s Enough…

I hate to shorten any of our seasons….apparently they are all important or we would not have them, spring, summer, fall and winter, I suppose…..all important to us and I love them all, but winter….a couple of weeks are enough…Don’t you think…So it would be ok with me if we had, spring, summer, fall and Christmas and then, restart with spring…ok, some of you may not like the idea of no winter and I will concede somewhat…how about spring, summer, fall, Christmas, Bowl Games and Super Bowl, then restart with spring…Ok, I can hear you winter fans howling now, so how about, spring, summer, fall, December and January and then restart spring….That should just about do it…Wow, that still leaves a lot of winter….Or maybe one of you guys will explain “global warming” to me again and I will be ok…You reckon?

Alan Bonner. Contributor to hesterbooks.com has Passed Away

Alan Bonner passed away a few days ago. In my downloads you  will find “Alabama the Beautiful” and “A Life of Peace”, both of which was written by Alan. He was in prison down in Clayton, Alabama serving a, well, I really don’t know how long, but I think about 12 years or so. He told me he was on drugs and alcohol when the crime occurred and he has since committed his life to Jesus Christ, also stating that he was ready to go anytime God chose to call him home. So, last week, Alan broke the bonds of this earth, flew out of those prison cells and flew to his heavenly home. We exchanged many letters while he was incarcerated and I am firmly convinced that his conversion was real and his faith genuine. So, today, I say goodbye to Alan and glad we got to exchange all those letters…..I’ll see you up there, my cousin….Later….Pete

University of New Mexico Basketball….Men and Women’s

Now get this…Our Lady Lobo’s were 1 – 7 coming into yesterdays game with University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) and the Lady Miners were 3 – 4…Our Lady Lobos have been having a tough year, not injury related, just a bad year…Even so, now get this, 5,328 fans turned up to watch them play…Now, is that a devoted fan base or what?…And it paid off with the Lady Lobos blowing out the UTEP Miners 72 – 59…..I am amazed, 5,328 fans….In winning seasons they will have from 7000 to 9000 fans pulling for them….Wow..

University of New Mexico Lobo’s mem are 6 – 3 in a rebuilding year after losing 3 outstanding seniors…..all 3 going to the next level…Alex Kirk, 7’1″ center, Cameron Barstow, 6’10” forward, and Kendall Williams, 6’5″ guard….we have outstanding talent to replace them, but being lots of freshmen and sophomores and suffering injuries to our best shooter and a couple of other injuries to talented players, out Lobos don’t really know who they are yet…neither do the fans. Still they turn out, usually in excess of 15,000 plus and I think the low number would be like 14,000 plus. So like the Lady Lobos, the fans are fans, but like most fans we prefer a winning program and we will get there this year. Coach Neal will get the best of the team on the court most of the time. We have lost this year to Boston College (close) and Texas A&M and Southern California, all three good programs and we have beaten 6 including Valparaiso,  George Mason and our biggest rival, New Mexico State. But at times, we have problems with our offense. Saturday night we played and beat ULM in the Pit, both teams playing well on defense and woefully on offense. Roots Sports was televising the game. The color analyst for the game made a statement that if these two teams played a game of horse it would take them a couple of weeks to complete it…..That was funny to me, but probably not to the teams. In the second half the Lobos pulled in front of the Warhawks by a pretty good margin, beating them by double digit points. Anyway, Albuquerque is a basketball town….(Well, they back the Isotopes pretty good also, now the AAA farm club of the Colorado Rockies after spending forever as the AAA farm club of the Dodgers. I will talk about baseball again in the spring)

We hope both teams will play well enough to go to a tourney….I think we can…er,, I hope….well, maybe so…

Bama vs Ohio State..oops…UPDATE…

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 12-12-2014

Alabama should not have a lot of trouble beating Ohio State….Should it?….Well, let me think. You know it is Urban Meyers and Coach Saban did not return his phone calls back when he was looking for a job while Saban was coach at Toledo and Nick did have a line backer coaching position available, just what Meyers was looking for….Well, I wouldn’t think to much about that but it might have been a burr under Urban’s saddle because in 2009 at the Sugar Bowl Meyers brought his Utah Utes in to beat Alabama 31 – 17. Now, I still think it will be ok, even with a more renown Ohio State team, but please remember Coach that Meyer’s may still be pissed off at you, so be prepared….I just thought I would bring it up again so you would not be surprised by him this time….Coach Nick probably will not read this entry, so if you guys see him, remind him, ok….Well, he may remember….. you reckon?……. UPDATE…….So none of you guys told Nick about the burr under Coach Meyers saddle, huh? They played with the 3rd string QB….What the heck would the score have been if the number one quarterback had played? Bama got beat, pure and simple…. Nice game, Buckeyes….

Illegal Activities…..

Now let me see….I think most of you know this, but let me recount some of the illegal activities around these parts….Robbing banks will get you in a heap of trouble….Breaking and entering homes or businesses are also illegal, most folks frown on that and may possibility shoot you….Driving your car drunk or under the influence of alcohol or drugs could also land you in the pokey. Even taking something out of someone’s yard that belongs to them is illegal. There are lots of other crimes that could get you in trouble as well, so folks need to keep up on the laws of the land cause we are not going to feel sorry for you when you land in jail doing hard time for you actions. You know what  is wrong, so don’t do it….Now, our southern border is not a prison cell to keep us American’s out or in, but it is there to advise the non citizen of the United States that he will need a passport or visa to get into our country. If you sneak across, you gonna be in trouble…If you get by with it for several years, you are still in trouble and all those you brought with you are in trouble. You can beg, bawl, holler at all the liberals, but it ain’t gonna help…You broke the law….Please, do it right the first time and get your visa or green card or whatever else is available for you, but don’t, I say don’t, sneak across our border…..THEN YOU IN A HEAP OF TROUBLE AND THOSE GREEN AND WHITE CARS AND PICKUP TRUCKS AROUND OUR BORDER ARE GOING TO BE COMING TO GET YOU. And they will…..That’s just the way it is…That is our law….

Above 9500 Feet….

This morning the weatherman talked about snow above 9500 feet…That put me to thinking about those higher elevations and just who would be affected by this weather system now passing through New Mexico. It also reminded me of a event that happened a few years ago when my niece and her two boys visited us here in Albuquerque. They are were from Reform, Al and my niece still lives there. While they were visiting, I decided to show the two boys around a bit. Since Reform is about 750 feet above sea level, and my home here in Albuquerque is 5650 feet….. I figured the boys would like to go up to Sandia Peak in the Sandia Mountains just east of Albuquerque, and see the view of Albuquerque and the Rio Grande Valley from the observation platform, 10,683 feet  above sea level. The parking area is several feet and many stair steps below the viewing platform. After parking, the youngest boy, John charged ahead of David and myself. John was literally running up the steps and I knew that he could not possibly keep up that pace at 10000 plus feet. About the time I called to him to slow down, he practically collapsed, breathing very hard. It kind of scared my briefly, until I saw that he was ok, except for not having nearly enough oxygen. I reminded him that the oxygen supply at that elevation was a lot less than that available in Reform. After sitting for a few minutes, he continued on up to the top of Sandia Peak without me having to say anything more about slowing down. Yeah, at 9500 feet there is a lot more snow than at sea level, but there is a lot less oxygen….We had a good time on that visit….I hope both boys remember it as well as I do…

Roiting, Burning and Looting……

How can some folks justify the rioting, burning and looting taking place in Ferguson or anywhere else for that matter? Does one injustice qualify another injustice? In some folks mind, I guess it does….But in my mind it is simply an excuse to put something in their own pockets and then say it was to make a statement…Shame on you….Yes, shame on the first crime also, but don’t pee down our necks and try to say it is raining…To do the rioting, burning and looting makes you a criminal and subject to arrest and serving jail time as you should….You are nothing but a common criminal….You want to protest, protest all you want, peacefully, under the law….

Immigration Reform…..Fixed…(Duck Tape Style)

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 21-11-2014

Oh, wow, now the immigration reform is fixed and  we can forget about that and move on to something else. The democrats have their new voters and the government can provide more services, etc, etc, so everything is now ok. The border can start letting new illegals through so we can reform the newly reformed immigration in another 5 or ten years, unless of course we find that this reformed immigration did not do enough, then we must try another reform….I love America….

The next fix….Homeless America Fix…..Now, we have all those FEMA trailers that no one is using down in Louisiana, so I suggest that we move them around America’s big cities, building a few more to go with those of course, and let the homeless move into them, rent free for up to 5 years or so…Now if they are over 70, then lifetime free rent…Those younger than 70 will just have to pay rent if they are US citizens…Illegals, rent free, well until we have a immigration reform granting them citizenship, then they have to pay….Wind generators will be built to allow the trailers to be all electric so that there will be no utilities other than water….We may work something out about free water depending on the location of the trailers. For example, New Orleans, water is free….Albuquerque, you have to pay if water is available…No water, you must drink wine or maybe milk or a few beers now and then….Folks, its cold out there on the streets this time of year and this is something that must be given serious consideration….Most of these folks are already US citizens and shouldn’t we give them as much consideration as we do folks who are not American citizen?…Gee, I don’t know…..Seems like if we don’t have enough problems of our own, we go out looking for them…Speaking of problems, did you know that the silvery minnow here in the Rio Grande River is not getting enough water and some times during most years the Rio Grande River dries up around Belen and San Antonio, NM…Now that’s another problem we need to tackle….We’ll think of some more problems in the next few days, I mean, when you are doing a DUCK TAPE fix there should be lots of problems we can solve…..

The Statue of Liberty

This is an e-mail that is going around…one that I fully agree with. See what you think…
The Statue of Liberty
For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions. This lady made the argument pretty simple. NOT printed in the Orange County Paper ….
Newspapers simply won’t publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they’re pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with your help, it will get published via cyberspace!
From: “David LaBonte”
My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to “print” it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:
Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren’t being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.
Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today’s American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home. They had waved good-bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.
Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought alongside men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France and Japan. None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan. They were defending the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France, no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German-American or the Irish-American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country’s flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.
And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I’m sorry, that’s not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900’s deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.
And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn’t start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

KEEP THIS LETTER MOVING. FOR THE WRONG THINGS TO PREVAIL THE RIGHTFUL MAJORITY NEEDS TO REMAIN COMPLACENT AND QUIET!! LET THIS NEVER HAPPEN!!

I sincerely hope this letter gets read by millions of people all across the nation!

Concerns……

Immigration: Legal immigration is good…Illegal immigration is bad….You cannot reward illegal actions….You got to send the illegals home and have them get their papers….No if, buts, or maybes…That’s just the way it is…..

Looting and arson: It is bad and sad when any one is killed by law enforcement officers. It has happened far to often here in Albuquerque and some folks have  gotten very upset and rightly so. however, no one burned down any business and looted and robbed stores. And it is hard for me to condone anyone who would do that.   Those actions can never be justified.

Obamacare: What did that guy mean, “the American people are stupid”. Most of us had no choice in the matter and if given the opportunity to the American people, it would have never passed. There are a bunch of “stupid” people in this world and the majority of them are in Washington. The “Pass it, then read it” congresswoman is where we can start.

College football playoff: I think we are going to be bitterly disappointed with the new playoff system. I don’t think it is nearly as fair as the basketball playoff. One of the reasons, conference teams playing so many conference teams. Strong conferences, ie, SEC, Big Ten, Big Twelve, Pac 12, ACC, get to beat up on each other, and either one of those conferences  may have several of the strongest teams in the nation. And they are not selected….It ain’t gonna work…..I say, it ain’t gonna work….

Religion: Freedom to choose where and when you worship or freedom to not worship at all, that’s the way it should be. Catholics, Baptist, Methodist, Buddhist, none or whatever is ok with me. My understanding that the  Muslin’s  will offer you a chance to join them and if you don’t it is ok to kill you and furthermore, don’t you be coming around and trying to tell them about your religion, which is also a very serious sin. I believe those folks are a little twisted…..I think they all go back to Ishmael…God promised to make them a great nation, or maybe He said nations……I don’t remember all of it that’s recorded in the Bible, but did He say weird? Well, I don’t know about that….You never see Muslin Hospitals, Muslin’s Church Centers, Muslin’s schools, Muslin’s cheerleaders, ….ok, maybe I’m going a little overboard, but what’s your take on them?…. The men are a happy fighting bunch, the ladies look like they are ready to cry….ok, ok already, give it up Hester, give it up!!!!
