Note to Meredith Bennett-Smith/ The Huffington Post

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 16-02-2013

Meredith Bennett-Smith says Tim Tebow is slated to speak at the controversial First Baptist Church of Dallas, TX, which she said is headed by a hate filled minister of the gospel, Rev. Robert Jeffress. Well, mam, you need to get out more because the message Rev. Jeffress is teaching is being taught across the country at churches every Sunday morning, and not just Baptist. You are invited to attend any one of those churches to get the low-down on all us hate filled Baptist and other Christians. To my knowledge, everyone of those fellows filling the pulpits say essentially the same thing and quote scripture, chapter and verse, from the bible. Baptist do not hate Jews, Mormons, or any other folks of a different belief, they simply say, “this is what the bible says” and then tell it like it is. Sorry if the shoe happens to fit. Some pastors say it in a way that is easier to swallow, but it is the same message. “Listen closely”, that’s how the Lord would say it. Of course, you know that He was a Jew, The King of the Jews” and He came to give salvation “first to the Jew and then to the Gentile”. Non-believing Jews or Gentiles are excluded from the Kingdom of Heaven per our Kings own words. Tim Tebow is trying to relay that same message to a lost generation. I don’t know you, but if you can make plans to attend that old “hate filled” church in April, hear the words that Mr. Tebow delivers and visit with some of the “hate filled” church goers (watch out, you may find them lovable) and then let us hear from you. Ok…Thanks for reading this post….Pete Hester

update: Ms. Bennett-Smith, apparently you talked Mr. Tebow out of attending the Dallas Church, however, I don’t think you stopped the message being spoken there. I am sure Rev. Jeffress will stay with his planned message so you still might ought to plan on being there. Breaking news, maybe…….Let me know…..Pete Hester

State of the Union…My Point of View

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 13-02-2013

We citizens are all allowed a say, huh? Good or bad…Listen, I hate the Robin Hood mentality, taking from the rich to give to the poor and we all need to contribute but we need to think about the contributions the rich make now, providing work for others….And the new minimum wage sounds real good and I want better for all of our workers, but you and I have to pay for it. You kidding me, we both know the price of a happy meal is going up, as the corporate cost goes up the cost of his product goes up. …Closing loop holes in corporate taxes, ok we can do that, but there again, his cost goes up in more taxes and you and I pay more for his product….There ain’t no free lunch, folks, you know that and I know that. Remember what the cost of diesel fuel used to be and how we all wanted to go to diesel driven vehicles. Well, the government (EPA) said we need to reduce the sulphur content that diesel engines produce and made the refineries lower the sulphur. They did, adding the refinery steps to take it out. Where is the price of diesel now? Well, you know the answer. It is higher than gasoline creating higher transportation cost for all our goods nationwide. Truckers fuel sur-charges are out of sight. For every action there is a reaction…that will not change. We can close the loop holes but you and I pay for that also, don’t kid yourself….. reform of immigration….sounds good, huh? We will tighten up the borders and keep out illegals…Now, let me see, 8 million granted amnesty is 1986 and maybe 11 million granted a form of  amnesty in 2013 and in about 25 years from now you can almost count on another 4 to 5 million wanting amnesty providing we did tighten the borders, but probably more like 6 to 8 million. I don’t know, maybe it will be different this time…You reckon?…Well, I am just an old fashion American and not really ready for the modern era and the new math required even in addition, I mean, what comes after trillion????? Israeli Air Force…I mean the first one, guys…look

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 12-02-2013

This e-mail is from a friend of mine, who by the way is a retired Colonel and is a world traveler and seems to know everyone world wide…That’s a joke, but he does have friends world wide….This is a couple of his e-mails and a short video that I thought all of you readers would enjoy. Thank you  Mark Welch and Mr. Reytan Avi for sharing with us.

Headings and e-mail addresses removed. Below starts his message…..

Avi is a retired Israeli Naval Captain, and is the husband of one of my classmates, Irit, when we lived in Israel.

Irit survived the holocaust and still has her Nazi identification numbers tattooed onto her wrists.

We went to a Scots Presbyterian school, Tabeetha School, in Jaffa (Joppa). We had a multitude of nationalities there – British, American, Israeli, Arab etc. Studied the Old Testament every morning, and New Testament in the afternoons. Every day. You would think I would be a scholar by now, but I am not. However, I am trying.

We were in Israel as part of the US Govt AID program, and my dad was there to help the Israelis develop their mineral industry. We had been in East Africa for 2 years prior to that, where he was attached to the British Govt doing much the same work, and then after Israel, off to Nepal for 3 years, again with the AID program.

This is wonderful. Thanks.I arrived in Israel in the summer of 1952 and lived there for 3.5 years in Ramat Gan and went to school in Jaffa, as you know, with Irit.Evangelical Christians, who are almost universally supportive of Israel, believe that the Lord God planned all of this in advance and was there protecting Israel, thru fighters like these guys.Take care,Mark

Rio Grande (part time river)

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 07-02-2013

This morning’s Albuquerque Journal (01/07/13) front page, shows a picture of the Rio Grande down ’round Los Lunas, NM and it is down to a trickle. Matter of fact, Mulberry Branch in Pickens County, AL has more flow than the Rio Grande at this point. Last year I crossed over the Rio Grande bridge on Highway 380 at San Antonio, NM and the river was completely dry. It’s a sad fact that our rain and snow is down so much that our farmers, not only in New Mexico, but all the way down the Rio Grande Valley will suffer this year unless we have some relief. The weatherman on Channel 13 yesterday reports that the snow pack at all our ski resorts are down 4 – 8 inches on the year and that will result in less snowmelt runoff. We need some rain, a good heavy drizzle for like 4 days and nights, that might do it or at least it will help. Well, maybe I better leave the amount up to the Almighty, and just say we need a goodly amount. In the next week days, pending me having some time to do so, I will take some pictures from different bridges crossing the Rio Grande and post a couple of them on this site. Some of you who have never been out our way may dispute our calling this a river, but it does run strong 6 months or so out of the year. I will try to take a picture from the same bridge when that happens. However, right now, I will have to say the Rio Grande is a part time river at best.   Pete

Fishing Trip for 2013

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 05-02-2013

Well, the Hester boys (and one Denton and one Trower, but they are Hester’s) have decided we need another fish trip. Last year it was up to  Platoro, Co from May 31 to June 3rd, opening weekend for the Gold Pan Acres Cabins and RV Parking Camp. And it could happen again this year. But, this year the final decision has not been made as to where we will go.  One of the options is the Glen Canyon Dam Reservoir  at Page, Az and  renting a houseboat large enough to accommodate the whole clan. Now, it will cost us a dad-blamed fortune to do that, but when it comes to fishing we don’t seem to “clam” up our wallets…..Geez, have you priced a fishing lure lately. They are high…. You lose one and you almost want to dive in to look for it. But on Glen Canyon I figure we may do more playing than fishing, but maybe not, and it is so deep you will not get hung up in the brush. So, we might save money on lures….If we go back to Platoro I hope for a couple of things. One, that they have done some work on the rub-board gravel roads…..Two, that we will go up a little later in the year so it will not be so dog-gone cold. One can not beat the fishing that we had last year…It was terrific…What about it guys…What are some of the other options?  We are not ready for the quality waters up on the San Juan, are we??? Probably not.

Number three grandson is saying some choice words about his flat tire at Gold Pan Acres Cabin, Platoro, Co, in June, 2012….

Immigration Reform?

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 30-01-2013

Immigration reform does not mean amnesty, does it? Now let me see……If I recall, President Reagan gave amnesty to 8 million back in, what, 1986, or whenever, with the thoughts of tightening down the border, making it hard to hire illegals and controlling the border to keep out more illegals…or something close to that. And now, President Obama want to clear a PATHWAY to citizenship for another 11 million illegals and tighten down the border, control hiring, blah, blah, blah…….So now we will have 19 million votes for the democrats plus children who become voting age…I don’t think President Reagan ever thought the first 8 million would vote for the democrats, but the Republicans are too tight with the purse strings…..What, you don’t think thats the way it is? Well, think again…. America is the land of the free and we are giving it away. We need to be a little selfish. Lets stop this nonsense. Give the illegals a special pass to be here for as long as they want or as needed, but please stop short of granting them citizenship. Granting citizenship to lawbreakers is crazy, completely crazy….Geez, maybe it is just me, a cranky old man, but something just ain’t right. Somebody needs to wise up and I think it is us, the voters of America. But wait, we just spoke….”A chicken in every pot”…..Lord help us…..

New Mexico Elk from KRQE, Channel 13, Albuquerque

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 25-01-2013

hunters and animal lovers, this is some sight….Thanks to a viewer of Channel 13

Update: Did you know that the estimated New Mexico Elk population in 2011 was 82,000 elk? In 1912 hunters had almost eradicated the elk population in New Mexico as it was estimated at 60 elk. By 1934, the population had grown to 4000 elk statewide. During 1939, 1948 and 1955 they moved and restocked certain areas of New Mexico. The population grew to  8000 in 1958, 12000 in 1967, 53,000 by 1982. In the year 1994 10,000 elk were harvested. By 1999 our elk population was 72,000. The elk feed on grasses, forbs, and woody brows and need plenty of cover during the day. Private land owners help preserve some of the herds. They spilt up into smaller herds while resting, normally 25 to 30 and travel in larger numbers, some extremely large herds such as shown in the video.

Bibical Amendments

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 18-01-2013

Should we start some amendments to the bible. I mean, some of those rules just plum get in the way….You shall have no other God before me,  I don’t think we can amend that, its pretty plain. ….You shall not misuse the name of the Lord. Now that one would really hamper a bunch of people, limiting their vocabulary tremendously…. Remember the sabbath day and keep it Holy. Maybe we should add the amendment that we could  give 30 seconds of silence while attending our favorite pro football game Sunday afternoon. That would probably take care of the remembering the sabbath, but the keep it Holy…hummmm, but that’s what it says….Honor your father and mother so that you may live long….No change  needed here huh, as it helps them and you…Thou shall not murder…we all know that except maybe the Roe v Wade people feel it is already an amendment, but I don’t think so…..Thou shall not commit adultery and remember Jesus amended this one by saying if you see a woman and even think, er, shall we say..oh, wow and maybe a thought or two on further down the gutter, you guilty….I know, but that’s what it says….Thou shall not steal, what’s his is his and whats mine is mine, we can’t argue with that can we?….Thou shall not give false testimony against thou neighbor, ie, bunch of cars round my neighbor’s house, wonder what he’s selling, must be something cause did you see that expensive SUV he is driving. Its fast too……You shall not covet your neighbors wife or stuff cause that is liable to make you break a bunch of the other no-nos, ie, adultery, stealing…You steal his ass and you in a heap of trouble or steal his oxen either, same thing…..I read on in the New Testament where we now live under grace, the grace of Jesus Christ. He tells us that he came to fulfill the Ten Commandments….He says we all sin….He says repent, turn  from your sins and you will be saved, even to those who believe on His name. So, it is not about how good I am but about how merciful He is. We are all breaking the laws, but He is sure to forgive us. Is there one who does not sin among us. No, not one He says….So maybe you are like me and the one amendment we all need is GRACE….Remember the song, “I’m just an old sinner saved by Grace.” I hope you will take a moment to assess where you are today. I tried to put a little humor in this posting, but it is very real and we all need to think about our relationship with the Almighty. He’s Boss, well, really, He is higher up than that, He is OUR KING….

Sad Story, Teachers….But True…..Sing Loud, folks, sing loud

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 17-01-2013

Every so often you hear a story that you feel you must tell and the main reason is  to keep others from making such a terrible mistake……Years ago, a second grade class was putting on a program. All the class was singing in a part of it. The teacher did not like the way one little girl sounded and offered her a quarter to not sing, telling her to just mouth the words. It upset and hurt the little girl terribly and her dad even made a trip down to the school house to address his anger to the teacher. That prompted that little girl to never sing again, never, ever,  because her voice was so terrible, at least she thought that must be right for her teacher to do such a thing. To this day, many years have passed and she will not sing.  I hope and pray that none of my readers would ever be quilty of such a thing. Singing it not so much about sounding good as it is letting the joy escape from ones heart. Shame on that teacher for putting such a burden and damper on that little girl, one who today is now in her golden years, but she will not sing because of being paid a quarter to not sing. Just writing about it makes me sad…I wonder how much joy has been surpressed over the years because someone told her she could not sing……I sing in the shower, while working in the yard, walking around the house, sometimes even while shopping….and it is not about me sounding good or pretty, its about me being happy and releasing it from the inside…….Shame, shame on that second grade teacher….Pete
