U F O sightings

I have one reader that wanted me to go to a site with, his words, “large information” on UFO’s. He did not give me the site address nor did he tell me just what he was interested in, IE, crashes, sightings or general info about them. I like to read about UFO’s and I do think they are out there. As large as our universe is, multiple planets could be suitable for life….Yeah, I know, you cannot find that talked about  in the Bible, at least spelled out as such…If they are out there, they answer to the same God we do…The good folks down in Roswell were not liars, they did have some visitors, of that I am reasonably sure…I visited with Walter Haut, the base information officer who wrote the original story in 1947, in the year 2000. He said it was hard for him to write the initial story about the flying saucer, but he said it was even harder to write the story of denial the next day, when the Air Force declared it to be a weather balloon and he was sure that was an untruth. He believed  very much that it was a UFO. He was honest and straight forward and a very believable man. According to him, Major Marcel, who flew the debris to Fort Worth, did not believe it to be a weather balloon either,  but when the General says it’s a weather balloon, it is a weather balloon, right?….The debris was later flown to Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio where it was buried, or something?….Oh, well, the secrets of the universe will one day be revealed, huh?…If you have a good UFO story, here is your chance to tell it, write about it in the comments of this post and all of us can enjoy it …….Pete

Pete,

You make the Roswell UFO event sound actually believable. I have no doubt that something actually occurred there just as I have no doubt that something actually occurred in the Seventies in the vicinity of the old Monzano Base when the so-called UFO sightings were made there. It is my belief and hope that most UFO sightings exist only in the “eye of the beholder”. I spent many a lonely day (and a few evenings) in lonely bicycle rides on the southern edge of Kirtland AFB and the Manzano Area of Kirtland in areas where it would be impossible for me to get to now. I can attest that I frequently say many strange phenomena, but I never saw anything or any phenomena that I could not explain. I frequently saw atrange lights and reflections in the distance, but the various lights and reflections are always very tricky to explain in the desert, especially when one is that near a large city like Albuquerque where the city lights can be seen in various forms for such a long distance.

What do you think of the current sightings of the “strange lights over Norway” on spaceweather.com? The Russians swear up and down that it wasn’t caused by one of their rocket launches gown bad. The picture of the spiral is so regular, so perfect, and essentially the same picture comes from multiple sources. It had to have a cause, and explanation. The UFO enthusiasts are having a field day, but I will go for a physical (scientific) expanation myself.

SPACESHIP SIGHTINGS: Would you like a call when the space station is about to fly over your backyard? Sign up for Spaceweather PHONE.

METEOR RADAR: The US Air Force Space Surveillance Radar is scanning the skies above Texas. When a satellite or meteoroid passes overhead–ping!–there is an echo. Activity is picking up this week as Earth enters a stream of debris from extinct comet 3200 Phaethon, source of the annual Geminid meteor shower. Tune into Spaceweather Radio for live audio.

STRANGE LIGHTS OVER NORWAY: Wednesday morning, Dec. 9th, people in arctic Norway were stunned when a gigantic luminous spiral formed in the northern sky. “We are used to seeing lots of auroras here in Norway, but this was different,” says Nick Banbury of Harstad who witnessed the phenomenon on his way to work “between 7:50 and 8:00 a.m. local time.” Jan Petter Jorgensen took this photo:

The first reaction of many readers when they see this picture is Photoshop! Surely this must be a fake. But no, many independent observers witnessed and phtotographed the apparition. It is real.

Banbury continues: “It consisted initially of a green beam of light similar in color to the aurora with a mysterious rotating spiral at one end. This spiral then got bigger and bigger until it turned into a huge halo in the sky with the green beam extending down to Earth. According to press reports, this could be seen all over northern Norway and must therefore have been very high up in the atmosphere to be seen hundreds of km apart.”

UPDATE (2 a.m. EST, Dec. 10): Circumstantial evidence is mounting that the phenomenon was caused by a malfunctioning suborbital rocket, possibly a Bulava ICBM launched from a Russian submarine in the White Sea. A Navtex no-fly alert was issued for the White Sea on Dec. 9th, and photographers have recorded what appears to be the initial boost phase of a launch beneath the spiral (see inset). A rocket motor spinning out of control could indeed explain the spiral pattern, as shown in this video of a Trident II missile launched from a US submarine in 2007. The Russian rocket hypothesis is plausible, but it has not yet been confirmed.

HOW STRONG WILL THE GEMINIDS BECOME? Long ago, on a cold December night in the 19th century, the first Geminid meteors appeared. In those days, the display was so weak (a dozen or so meteors per hour) that only the most alert observers could say they had seen a Geminid. How times have changed. According to data compiled by Bill Cooke of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office, the Geminid meteor shower has intensified almost five-fold to become one of the best showers of the year:

What’s driving the surge? The source of the Geminids is extinct comet 3200 Phaethon. A stream of debris from the comet has been sweeping across Earth’s orbit for more than a century, and we are plunging deeper into the stream with each December crossing. Computer models suggest that the Geminids will continue to intensify with meteor rates jumping another 20% to 50% in the decades ahead.

Researchers will be watching the 2009 Geminids to see if the trend does indeed continue. Rates could exceed 140 meteors per hour when the shower peaks on Dec. 13th and 14th. Get the full story and observing tips from Science@NASA.

Explore the Sunspot Cycle

In the Bible there are many references to the mysteries being revealed. And I know that generally refers to the spiritual realm in most cases and maybe all cases…I like it in Revelations when John is instructed to “do not write this down” and that is to be revealed to us later…What we now think some of the strange objects refered to in that book are present day helicopters and tanks…Could they turn out to be something that we do not know about? A lot of folks think that the believer is taken from earth at about Chapter Four in Revelations and that the rest of the book is concerning unbelivers left here….I don’t know…Wish I did…God kind of reveals things to me as He wants me to know them, such as He tells me I am destined for Heaven and that I don’t do a very good job witnessing to others and I need to improve in that area and in obedience to His word….If He lays something else on me, UFO’s or not, I will pass it on to you readers…

John was instructed to “not write this down” because he really did not understand them, certainly their far-reaching implications. He was instructed to only write those things which he understood insofar as concerned the church of believers. None of the UFO sightings represent alien life forms because, if they did, NASA would have found evidence of planets or other bodies suitable for supporting life forms by now. This is not to say that there aren’t such planets out there somewhere, but they are much too far away to make routine and frequent visits to the earth (except those in the spiritual realm who are with God). Sorry! I’m afraid that we are effectively alone in this universe, and this is the way that God intended it to be.

I am not as sure as you are in this regard, but that is ok. But I think there are many mysteries that God will enlighten us to in the coming days, further revealing more on the Bible story. It’s all there, but further understanding is coming….
