BCS bowl selection process?

Are you satisfied with the picks? Probably depends on the conference you pull for. Is Alabama a good choice for number one. You bet. No denying that. Is Texas the choice for the other selection? Well, it is now. Is that the correct pick? I don’t think so. Should it be Boise State or TCU or Cincinnati? I don’t know that either, but I do know it should have been one of them. At some point in time, someone other than the money conferences are going to have to take charge of the national championship game. Otherwise it is not a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.It becomes a popular choice of a select few. I love Alabama football, always have, always will…I also love New Mexico football, but because of our conference even if we had the world’s best football team, we could not play with the big boys…TCU is penalized because of the conference they are in…no doubt about that…They could beat Texas..They can give Alabama a good game, maybe beat them, but we will never know…That’s what makes me sad….

The BCS bowl selection process is a lot like Obama’s healthcare reform: the more they try to reform it, the worse it gets. Personally, I’d rather see them to just let the sportscasters and coaches vote on the championship team. It all has little meaning anyway, and the season won’t be extended into February. I’d vote for putting the Loboes into the BCS, and I haven’t watched a Loboes game in 40 years. My vote didn’t count much in the national election of 2008. ACORN saw to that. I suppose it counts even less in the BCS.
I still enjoy the Loboes, though. After all, they must have 11 players on the field, which is the same for their opponents. Supposedly, they have an equal chance of winning. The difference between winning and losing is sometimes very ephemeral at best. Sometimes a $42 million coach can make the difference. Sometimes it can’t. Grasping at that difference is sometimes like grasping at straws. Some can grab it, and some can’t. UNM has other finer attributes in which to be proud than a winning football team. In the late Sixties, I was always impressed with the cross curtural and religious mix of the UNM student body. Now that it is larger, and Albuquerque is bigger; I’m sure that mix is ever greater. I am further impressed that, even today, I hear of few racial incidents at UNM. I don’t know why that is. Perhaps ACORN is not strong there.
Errol, we need a playoff…It can be worked out, shortened seasons in conference play and a couple of extra games for the winners…Something can be done…Pete
But what if the playoff process becomes longer than the season. Is it worth it? The rich and the powerful schools that can hire $42 million coaches will still be favored and the Loboes as well as little East Carolina University will be left out in the cold. Of course, the Loboes could hire a $42 million coach too if they has as loyal a set of fans as the University of Alabama who are willing to pay up to $800 per ticket on top of $5000 per person to attend the BCS championship game in Pasedena as opposed to just watching it on TV.
I’m sure that something can be done, and something will be done; but, like Obamacare, it may not be any better.
