Claunch Elk

I did it….I uploaded the picture of the elk..I had to  print it out and scan to my pictures..I don’t know why..You computers guys probably already know what I was doing wrong. But anyway, now we have it….proof of Elk in Central New Mexico….pretty, huh?Picture 002

Poor elk! He’s probably hungry. Look around at what he has to eat: mesquite, brambles, tumbleweed. Perhaps we should take pity on him and throw out a bale of hay. I’m only kidding. This elk may live off enchantment. I don’t remember seeing much of anything around Albuquerque except jack rabbits and roadrunners. I did see a lot of elk around Angel Fire, Glorieta, and Taos, though.

I once had the opportunity to tour a section of land in Eddy County New Mexico with a Bureau of Land Management employee. His job was to determine the food value of the plant on the property involved. A person would be surprised at the food value of some of the plants. The problem is one of overgrazing the land. Animals can also be picky about what they eat and save some of the things to very last….This old desert will surprise you….
