South Carolina: Gold and Silver coins

By golly did you read about this new idea.  I  think the official from South Carolina may have come up with something. Pay for everything in either gold or silver coins. The transportation industry will make a mint. Say, you have a house payment of 1080.21 cents, which you owe to a mortgage company in California. You will have to mail or ups or fed ex or hire a common carrier to haul the cash out to California. The transportation company, not wanting the exposure of hauling all that cash unprotected will have to hire guards to protect the cash, riding shotgun if you will, creating jobs there…. Exploration and mining of gold and silver will have to be increased to handle the new coinage we will need, creating more jobs. Refineries will need to be built. Mining equipment will need to be manufactured to handle the new demand. More and more jobs..That may be the answer…But I have trouble keeping my pants up now as they keep slipping down on my belly, so envision me on the way to the grocery store to buy two sacks of groceries, say 85.00, all in coins and me holding on to my pants to keep them up under all that weight.. I’ll be ok until I get into the store and I have to turn loose my pants to get items from the shelves and down goes my pants. The lady behind me sees me with my pants down and screams, I drop the jar of jelly, which breaks, sending glass and jelly  all over the asile. I grap my pants and try to run with all the coins in my pockets, trip and fall, grabbing for the lady’s cart to remain upright and it falls, spilling the  four hundred dollars she has  in coins in her purse. The manager calls the police stating he has a robbery in progress and the police handcuff me……hey, forget the dang coins….that ain’t a good idea…it”s a terrible idea….

You needn’t worry about the coins. Gold and silver coins are illegal, but your story is hilarious. When I first saw the news item about the state legislator from South Carolina proposing a new gold and silver currency in the state of South Carolina, I just past it off as just another “here we go again”. South Carolina is just trying to succeed from the Union again. The Constitution is very clear that the Congress of the United States has the exclusive power to establish and regulate a suitable medium of exchange. When a state attempts it, it is tantamount to succession. Your story, though, is hilarious. You may have a future as a writer yet.

I’m a law breaker. I still have a few…silver not gold..I hope to have some future left but as a writer, its very questionable….

Hello! I just wanted to take the time to create a comment and state I’ve truly appreciated reading through your blog. Thanks for all your work.

I appreciate your comments…That is the only pay I get, though none is expected, but I makes me feel good to know that a few folks enjoy reading my posts…Come back any time…Pete Hester
