Shamu, the killer whale

We all hated to hear of the death of the trainer of the killer whale….One thing that has always worried me about working with animals is that they are animals..Holding something in its mouth is one way for it to show affection and to be playful with its owner….I believe this whale loved its trainer and wanted to play, nothing more…But on the other hand, many animals can turn on you in a second, dogs attacking children they normally play with, and attacking owners that have been loving them for years and we really have no way of knowing it’s motive(well, duh)…I would appeal to all animal lovers to love and take care of their pets, but don’t leave small children unattended around them…Just a word of caution as most of the time they will be ok, but, be safe, ok?…….

I added your blog to bookmarks. And i’ll read your articles more often!
thanks, Pete
Is playing with animals really any different to playing with humans? We don’t always know their motives either. It appears that the trainer of the killer whale was doing exactly what she wanted to do, what she loved to do, and what she was good at. Must we always question everyone’s motives for doing what they enjoy doing whether it is smoking cigarettes, drinking pop by the gallon, or playing with so-called killer whales.
By the way, I thought all whales had the capacity to kill as do all humans. Why single this animal out simply because he has done in the past what he was created to do?
