New Mexico Investments

Albuquerque Journal, April 8, 2010 “Bland Says He’ll Take the Fifth” by Mike Gallagher: Then-State Investment Officer Gary Bland  initiated a lawsuit in 2008 seeking to recover millions of dollars the state investment Council paid for bonds it bought from a scandal plagued housing authory. Now, Bland is out of a job and will “take the fifth” asserting his constitutional privilege against self-incrimination regarding any questions that arise in that case concerning a separate scandal involving other state investments made during his tenure………continuing, “he resigned last year in the face of a no confidence vote, has refused to answer a wide range of questions concering federal investigations into how third-party placement agents helped direct more than $1 billion dollars in state investments to financial firms that paid the agents huge fees. ….Now I am skipping some of the article down to where it says, “according to court records, Bland is concerned with the guilty plea of former Dallas investment adviser Saul Meyer, whose firm helped the SIC choose investments. Meyer, in a quilty plea in New Your ensured his company recommended “certain proposed investments that were pushed on me by politically connected individuals in New Mexico.”…..So, on and on the article goes but the general thoughts of Bland and his attorney are that since this Meyer pleaded guilty, it is better for Mr. Bland to plead the fifth……Me talking now….It kinda makes it hard for a fellow to get on Mr. Bland’s side of the fence, don’t it…It’s kind of like, uh-oh, my buddy pleaded guilty so I better just keep my mouth shut….It sounds like you’re in pretty deep….Part of the article I left out was that Mr. Bland was appointed by Governor Richardson, so I ain’t saying he was politically connected, but I sure ain’t saying he is not….Anyway, out here in New Mexico “We sure could use a little good news today.”……The state is having money troubles, the city is having money trouble, the school system is having money trouble, I have not heard about the county yet….But if they are not, they are keeping their mouths shut and that is probably a good idea, huh?……If you have a little money you dang sure better hold on to it is what I’m thinking….Pete

This is what one get’s when there is two Bill’s in the same ole pod. New Mexico politics is beginning to look like politically correct Arkansas politics under that other old Bill when Hillary, as first lady, was making millions off the stock market (and other investments), like White Water. You better watch our. Another White Water might be coming down the pike for New Mexico. After all, two Bill’s in the same ole pod has to be pretty much the same. If you don’t watch out, we will be reading about another Monica Lewinsky case in the “Hotel Santa Fe”, like the one in the hotel Excelsior in Little Rock. Boy! Ole Bill’s influence certainly extended far and wide.

Please excuse my facetiousness, but I can’t help but believe that the current ole Bill in Santa Fe did not have a hand in Mr. Bland’s problem. After all, he had excellent mentorship.Gary learned from Bill, who learned from another Bill.

I’m sorry, but he did not have sex with that woman, that Lewinsky….I heard him say that on t v…..the other Bill did not have anything to do with those investments, he said so in the paper… So there you have it….

Don’t bet on it. I distinctly remember old Bill pointing his finger at the camera, and thus directly at me, when he said those words. I didn’t believe him then, and I don’t believe him now. Then, there was the Lincoln bedroom, which made the Excelsor Hotel (now the Peabody) look petty indeed. Neither do I believe ole Bill of Santa Fe when he said that he had nothing to do with those investments. After all, ole Bill was the boss. Bosses usually know what is going on. Even Ronald reagan wasn’t so out-of-touch that he didn’t know what Ollie North was doing during Iran-Contra.

Nice post and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Thank you as your information.
