Every so often I like to ask you readers to read about Big Momma (1950’s). I believe there were about 18 of us cousins living near her. She had no children of her own and she was a Granny to us. She was my Grandfather’s third wife. She was a large woman and she left a mark on about about 18 children in a special way. She would love us and she would spank our butts as proof of her love. So, I am bringing her up again so if you have not read this story you will have the opportunity to now. Taken from my book Cousins…..chapter_six_big_momma Thanks, Pete Hester

This is one of the younger cousins you mentioned in your story about our Big Momma. I wish to let you know how much I appreciated reading your story. I remember my Mother once saying to me how she wished that someone would write down the various events of our “growing up” period. Although I thought about doing it myself, I was so young at the time that I really didn’t have the accuracy of memory to do so. I am so happy that you are finally doing it before these great memories are forever lost. I am sure that is my Mother’s main fear: that one day these events would be forever lost. Thank you, Pete, for your fine effort of finally recording them, not only for the Cousins, but forever for posterity.
Thanks again for the story of how Grandfather died, the story of yours and my older cousins conversion and joining the Church as well as the details of Big Momma’s Baptism. All I knew is that these events happened. I did not know any of the details. Your website is great. I am happy that you now have the time to do this.
Incidentally, I also enjoyed the link on your website to donald’s blog where he has recorded the larger story of the place and the times that the Cousins grew up. I tried to email Donald to tell him how much I enjoyed his blog, but I could not make it work. Again, thanks.
Thanks Errol…Post a comment on Don’s blog, surely he will get that. Regarding the cousins book, which is fiction, I might go ahead a do a factual on the same thing and call names..I think I could get approval from the other cousins to do that….Pete
Uncle, You are doing a great job on your stories. I have heard them before but it is good to get reminders. Big Momma’s and Uncle Dan’s love for children was great and their love for the Lord was greater, I know they shared it with me…
I am glad you remember them, Dan. She was a special lady to a bunch of us and it brings me joy to tell folks about her. That is why I keep bringing up her every so often. And I can see how many people read that story and it is read a bunch. I thank all the folks for that. Good to hear from you nephew..Come back to see me….Uncle
