An article in todays Albuquerque Journal by Michael Hartranft, Sunroof, tells of a company here in Albuquerque spending 5 million dollars to cover their empolyee’s parking lot, get this, with solar panels….solar panels to provide energy for the company, reportly about 80 % of their power needs, and providing shade for many of the cars of the employees…5 acres worth…5 million dollars for 1.1 megawatt photovoltaic system….5,040 solar panels at The Bell Group headquarters….That’s something, huh? Well, I thought so. you can catch the entire article at ABQjournal.com….I enjoyed the article Mr. Hartfanft…good job…

Please correct me if it is not true, but I thought that the official symbol for the State of New Mexico was the Zuni symbol for sun. Now s significant portion of the state seems intent on blocking that symbol from the very place that Americans spend a good portion of their lives: their cars and the places to park them. I suppose that New Mexico will have to change its official designation to the state of the sunblockers. I wonder what its SPF number is.

Well, if you have ever enter a car parked in the direct sunlight of New Mexico you would certainly appreciate what having some type cover means. Very few employers provide cover for employee parking. Believe me the ones who do have covered parking feel more appreciated.

Yep! Americans are stupid. They move to a life of retirement in the Land of the Sun, then they demand a cover from the sun. Yes, I’ve entered a car (a VW beetle without A/C) parked in the sunlight (where else is there to park one in New Mexico) in New Mexico plenty of times and found it downright comfortable. Getting into one at 100+ in low humidity air beats getting into one at 50 in high humdity air any day. I’ll take the Land of the Zuni’s any day. They can have their air conditioned cars, covered parking lots, and sun generated energy, which is probably no cheaper than dirty, polluted Gulf oil energy. I thank the Bell Group for the effort anyway.

ok,,,
