Our tour guide….He crawled all over the side of the cliffs of the canyon and seemed to be begging for food. We had been warned that most of the injuries around the canyon were treatment for squirrel bites…This little guy felt he owned the place, well, I guess he does as he lives there. I will be posting stuff on the Grand Canyon and Glen Canyon Dam in the next few days. The Glen Canyon Dam, upstream from the Grand Canyon has done much to stop the erosion of the the canyon by further taming of the Colorado River. We met a couple from Virginia and he said he was not impressed, that it was just a big hole in the ground. I was very disappointed to hear a comment like that because I had never seen such colors anywhere, colors that changed while you watched. I saw a rain storm over the river while the sun was shining on the canyon walls on either side of the rain storm, a vast panorama that was simply breathtaking to me….The person from Virginia may have vision problems….The Grand Canyon is GRAND…..click on the picture to increase the size…..Pete

I am not surprised with what your tourist friend from Virginia said of the Grand Canyon. When I left Albuquerque, I went to Richmond for a time. Every time I tried to describe the beauty of the New Mexico climate and countryside to my coworkers, the only question they could ask was, “Isn’t it hot there?” When I tried to explain about the “dry heat” and that it didn’t actually feel all that hot, they looked at me like they didn’t believe. Then, I said you will just have to go there and experience it for yourself. No one can understand real beauty unless they experience it.
Very true and thanks…Pete
So beautiful… I think the GRAND canyon will have to be my next trip. Who knows, maybe I will get the same tour guide.
I am sure he will be there waiting on you…He just scurried amongst all the visitors…thanks
