We have been looking for a ice cream freezer…Ours broke a few weeks ago and we are looking for a replacement, naw, not the old hand crank kind, though it is best, but an electric that will do the turning for you. Well, we have gone to most of the stores in town that we thought would carry them and have not been able to find one….They all say, that’s seasonal stuff…The other day we were at K-mart, a nice young lady was working behind the information, customer service desk and my sweetie asked, “do you have any ice cream freezers?”…”What is that”, she asked?”. We first thought she was kidding, but she really had no idea. I said to her, “Are you telling me you never sat on a ice cream freezer while someone was cranking it to make ice cream?”…You could tell she thought that was last century stuff…you know what, it is…Folks really, I know I ask you for comments and you don’t care to leave a note, but please talk to me on this,…..am I getting that damn old?….People don’t know what home made ice cream freezers are anymore? That is really sad….Every child in America should have to sit on an ice cream freezer while it is being cranked. You learn so much waiting on good ice cream, about sharing a bowl of ice cream with family and friends, about patience and anticipation of something good to come, about sharing the work for something good, I think I could go on and on regarding the values of home made ice cream….Maybe that is what is wrong with America? Reckon?….What do you think?…..

That is what’s wrong with the younger generation. To them, waiting on ice cream means waiting for Mom to go to the store to get some. Good luck on finding an ice cream freezer! You may have to settle with a good old fashioned electric. A hand cranker may be difficult to find unless you frequent garage sales. By the way, the modern (21st century) way of making home made ice cream is not with store bought freezers. The modern way is to mix cryogenic (liquid) nitrogen with your ice cream mixture while it is being stirred. It freezes instantly. This is the way we make it in the lab. It only takes about five seconds to freeze it. This is the home version of the way its done commercially. It’s good stuff and convenient for busy people in a busy world. The only problem is getting the cryogenic nitrogen if you have to buy it.
I no longer care to do the hand cranked, but I sure don’t want to do the cryogenic stuff either…an electric will be fine, if I can find it…You are right about waiting for Mom to come home from the store…And Mom probably wants to forget the other type ice cream as well….its a busy world..
Uncle, Come on down to Alabama and we can get you one, hand crank maybe hard to find, but ele. ones are every where.
A few contracts ago the Union got us ice machines in the hot areas of the plant, for drinks and other things, will it wasn’t long before a ice cream mixer showed up but used only on late. Big bosses don’t understand the need for ice cream when it is hot.
3 to 11 and 11 to 7 shifts.
great, I may have to…we will keep looking for a while…thanks nephew
While visiting kinfolk in Portales, guess what? They had an extra ice cream maker and they gave us their old one…A Dolly Madison Electric…We used it yesterday and made some peach ice cream…the one for diabetics, using Splenda and fat free cream and 1 percent milk….It was dang good eating, no. 2 son gave it his stamp of approval, and if any of you folks want the receipe, let me know, ok?….Pete
