He did it again….He left us another present….Now they say, oops, the state budget deficit is 450 million, not the 250 million that we first thought….How do you mis-count that much money….I guess they don’t count money any more do they…Maybe they should…nothing should be spent that requires over a eight digit calculator and only a guy with limited math knowledge handling the treasury…..Some folks think they are to smart to get caught, and they are pretty slick, but when we do catch them its three or four years later and the damage is done…Us dumb guys wouldn’t try something like that and if we did, we would be caught right away….Sooooo, dumb down the money handlers and hire a bunch of watchers, one to watch the money guys and one to watch the watchers… Our new governor has her work cut out for her, huh?….. Thanks, Bill,…what part of the world are you off to now?

Whoops! The entire state wasn’t worth that much money 40 years ago. It’s easy to see how they can make that big of an error. They’re using a nine-digit calculator and estimating the other digits. It’s called “rounding off”. Santa Fe needs a couple more copies of the Obama Stimulus Calculator (15 digits).

I saw the other day where mining accounts for 12 billion annually…Oil and gas another several billion…agriculture accounts for a bunch…New Mexico is not, well, was not a poor state…politicians can sure screw things up, huh?

I was only writing of my impression as I was biking (too poor to own a car) over that seemingly poor enchanted land. I knew it was worth more than $450 million even in 1967. The Air Force was spending more than that just on KAFB (not including Sandia and Monsanto Bases which were then separate bases). In fact, they were spending more than that just on the Air Force Weapons Lab alone (later to become known as Phillips Laboratory and now the Air Force Research Laboratory). As little ole poor me was biking over the enchanted desert seemingly a thousand miles from nowhere, I certainly could see no evidence of $450 plus million dollars (and did not want to see it). I was enjoying it just as it was, and as it was intended to be. Just as the Lord had made it.

Please don’t blame the politicians. After all, we put them in office. As Charlie Brown once said, “I saw the enemy, and he is us.” Politicians are no more crooked than the average voter who is out to get every penny he can out of the taxpayer. Many are just better at it than others. Look at that other Charlie (Charlie Rangel), who is currently fighting for his life in the Congress without lawyers and his greedy constituents in Harlem who keep putting him back in office.

I understand what you are saying but one wrong does not make a right. Me, Rangel, or Richardson should all be held to the same standards….wrong is wrong..

Amen to that! But we do elect our thievies. We must bear some of the responsibility.

“My choices in life were either to be a piano
Player in a whore house or a politician.
And to tell the truth, there’s hardly any
Difference!” This is a quote from Harry Truman.
