Feb. 12, 2011, Angel Fire Resort, NM will present the Snow Shovel Race again this year!!!! Come on out..Bring your #12 grain shovel to ride down the 1200 foot track and compete for cash and prizes….25.00 entry fee….reach speed of over 60 miles per hour while riding your shovel down the ski slope. Helmets are required…..You do have to stop at the end of the slope, please keep that in mind…..this is a standard grain shovel…This concept began in the 1970 when snow lift operators needed a faster way to get down the mountain and started by riding their snow shovels. The first race was held in 1975 and except for a few years has been one of the annual fun events of Angel Fire…This event will be televised this year on Bert the Conqueror nationwide….There will be live, evening entertainment all weekend long. Discounted lodging packages are available through Angel Fire Resort….addition information can be found at www.angelfireresort.com/winter/wh-shovel-races.phpor call 800-633-7463. I watched a couple of guys coming down the mountain on tv last night, sixty miles per hour with that shovel handle sticking up between their legs…unhuh, no way, both those boys turned their shovels over to stop the darn things, rough landing….rough landing…If you are brave, come on out….it did look like fun until you needed to stop….Pete Hester

No way! Riding down a mountain on a snow shovel at 60 mph! I just as soon ride down on my butt the old way. It seems like the difference may be the same. Seriously though, I just as soon stay away from the mountains during snow season.

I hear you…
