Bad Baptist….

Hey, I was born and raised a Baptist….But I don’t like what those folks are doing picketing military funerals…What is that about?…Give that up and go love the folks who have lost a child fighting for our country…What can possibly be gained by putting pickets out during that time of burying a child….Lay down your signs and take up the cross and help the grieving souls bear their burdens….My goodness, do ya’ll serve the same Christ as the rest of us Christians?….Can you not see the hurt you are causing?…Love thy neighbor as thy self….I hope God will open your eyes…Have any of you lost a child, a family member, a friend, a cousin? Surely you understand the hurt they are enduring….You got to be a different breed of Baptist than what I am used to…Some cult maybe?….Just weird?…
update to this post, March 4, 2011….Tonight I read up on the Westboro Baptist Church…..I have learned they are not associated with any other Baptist churches. And its no wonder as all the google articles were about “hate”….gays, Jews, Blacks, Lady Gaga , all are hated by the Westboro Baptist church. Probably some others in there as well…I think we need to pray for them and pray that the word “love” will overshadow all the “hates” they have…..I would suppose that if we dug deep enough we would find the real reason for the picketing and carrying on…..fame….fortune….maybe even the old devil himself has a hand it as he wants to stir up people against God on both sides of the aisle…..I am Baptist, but I try not to throw stones and certainly cannot conceive anyone showing such disrespect at a soldier’s funeral, at anyone’s funeral…shame on you….
Baptists includes a lot: the missionary, the free will, the foot washing, the anabaptist, the antibaptist. The overwhelming chrarcteristic of the Baptist Faith and Message is “freedom”. Like every democracy, the Baptist have a grassroots governance which ascends upward towards Heaven from the very bottom. Again, like all democracies, it includes everyone, often in the same congregation, at least before the big split where each go his separate way. These are obviously a group who have split off into the depths of destitution becoming so faraway from Christ never to return. At least, they have demonstrated their freedom to accept or reject Christ as they see fit. It’s just too bad that they have carried the U. S. Supreme Court into oblivion with them. At least, in our country, even the Supreme Court is not “supreme”. The people can still rise up and cast the current Court out. It may take a few years for a few of them to die off, but the final authority rests with the people.
By the way, isn’t a few bad baptist to be expected in a polity that accepts everyone from the lowest depths of society, which includes the bad as well as the good? I bet the men and women of our brave military families will have sufficient ingenuity to find a way to appropriately honor their fallen in spite of a few bad people, even in spite of the U. S. Supreme Court.

Uncle, I agree with you this is very upsetting for me,how can you picket someone that gave their life for OUR country.
