Man, did you read about the two year old dog being found at sea three weeks after the tsunami took him for a ride in the ocean, on top of a roof no less. Paper stated that the pup was reunited with its owner. Ban was the dog’s name and I am sure it was happy to see some friendly faces after that ride in the ocean.
Gas price stuff: Gasoline FOB gulf coast was 3.20 per gallon as shown in today’s paper. Typically one can add about 45 to 50 cents a gallon to that out here in our part of the world to calculate the price at the pump. That would be 3.70 and I think that is about where it is, I didn’t look today but yesterday at the c-store nearby it was 3.65 per gallon. I wanted to drive to Alabama this year for another reunion but it will probably be cheaper in the long run to fly. Gad, I hate to fly any more. I used to fly every week and it was fun…..not anymore….”take off my shoes…What thehellareyoutalkingabout?”…..Take off your shoes, gosh….
Coal powered electric plants stuff: Now coal is back in favor over nuclear…And I think they are right…The nuclear plants do scare me, but what do I know…Coal scares a lot of other folks..We Americans do love our comfort, don’t we….So, coal, wind, waves, solar, whatever, we will use it, including nuclear..
Cocoa stuff….Cost of your cocoa is going up due to all the problems in the Ivory Coast after forces local to the elected president Outtara arrested the former president Laurent Gbaggo….As you recall, Gbaggo would not leave the office….I doubt the price goes down once the government settles down…Its always something….
Price stuff: My sweetie came in this morning complaining about every thing going up at the grocery store… Orange juice, milk, matter of fact, everything she took out of the grocery bag she compared to the last time she bought…She warned me to watch the prices if I went shopping….Now, that is really scary…I am a terrible shopper at low prices…at runaway prices we could really be in trouble…well, maybe she won’t send me to the store…

Miracles certainly happened in Japan to save the tsunami dog. The dog probably should assume the new name of Miracle. It is just too bad that they couldn’t save the reactors too; but, if we are to continue to have plenty of energy in an energy starved, overpopulated world, we will have to learn how to design and operate nuclear reactors safely in spite of anything that nature can throw at them.
Have you heard? The big thing in the future will be indoor farming. Agriculture is moving indoors where the many problems connected with traditional farming will become irrevelant: weather, rain or lack there of, climate change, pest, heat and lack of it, temperature change, freezing, etc. The day when old farmers go to the domino hall to gripe about the weather may be coming to an end. Artificial sunshine will be used to grow the plants. Plants will no longer have to adapt to the harsh conditions of full spectrum sunshine. They will be fed only those wavelengths that will make them grow efficiently. The plants will never be exposed to those dangerous and toxic wavelengths that they have so much difficulty in adapting their survival around. I wonder what the old farmers will gripe about in those future days. Of course, there will always be the government. Old farmers always have dreamed of “doing the impossible”, that is controlling the weather. It may soon be possible. Controlling the government is another matter entirely.
Yeah, the indoor farming will be great. Wonder how much production will go up farming from sheds? I hope they can keep up with demand, don’t you?
If you don’t believe it, go to http://www.laboratoryequipment.com/News-the-farm-of-the-future-is-indoors-041211.aspx. I did not make this up. Our farms of the future may really be indoors, and they may be the answer to the world food crisis. From indoors, farmers will finally be able to control the weather. They will be able to give their crops just the right amount and kind of sunshine that they need, including water, nutrients, and the thermatically controlled atmosphere most conducive of rapid growth and high production. Of course, controlling the government is another matter. I encourage you to go to the website above. It may be farfetched to some, but it is interesting. People may have to learn how to eat bioengineered fruits and veggies, but we’re doing that anyway by eating veggies from our modern corporate farms.
Please remember that these indoor farms will operate 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. Farmers will no longer have to wait for the right weather to plant and to harvest. They will no longer just have income during the summer months, but they will have a steady income the year round. Wouldn’t that be nice? If I was young again, I’d think about going into farming. How farming will have changed from those days in Coal Fire in the Fifties to the age of indoor farming and in a matter of a lifetime.
You are right on the conditions for indoor farming and it could supplement our farms in a major way and I guess if we have enought of them scattered across American, they could handle our needs. Feeding the world, I don’t know. Interesting thoughts however…..
