Postal Problems Progessing Stuff

Did you read where the U. S. Postal Service is seeking to cut 120,000 jobs. They are trying to get permission from Congress to circumvent labor contracts. The union’s chief of staff said that idle time was inevitable giving that it is a network industry and trucks get stuck in traffic and workers wait for deliveries. The same article said that through the first six months of this year the postal service had paid out 4.3 million in standby time to employees who have nothing to do, ie, equipment broke, lack of work, etc. Seems to me the labor union officials would figure that it would be much better to send those idle employees home without pay and catch up the next day, saving 8.6 million in idle time on the year. That might not keep 120,000 on the payroll but it would dang sure help a lot and would also let the big bosses know the employees are trying to help the cause. The USPS is expected to announce a 7 billion dollar loss next month. You can’t operate long with that type loss, ….well ok, unless you are the federal government….Then you can go a whole lot higher than that….. Reckon Fedex and UPS would sub out some work to the Postal Service? Well, it was just a thought….

Perhaps we should be gearing up for a virtual post office where all mail is sent and received electronically. Perhaps it is coming to that. The U. S. Postal Service, as it is presently constituted, is about as outdated as the Pony Express. By then, a $10,000 PC or a $300 smartphone will be required by everyone to access their mail as a kid starting in school today requires a $1000 ipad to enroll in school. What a world! What happened to free public education? The liberal dems will just pass another stimulus package for education to buy every poor kid an ipad, thus making every kid dependent on government giveaways for life. It may be time to get back to the 3R’s and basic education.
Another possibility is to place the internet under the control of the U. S. Postal Service, eliminating all of those fly-by-night providers who care nothing for the security of one’s mail as it progresses through the system, much less in the security of one’s identity in the system. Postal inspectors are good at spotting the “bad guys” and bringing them to justice. Such government control is the only way that some order can be brought to the wild jungle out there, which is the internet. On the downside, this control will sacrifice the First Amendment and will never happen.
Oh, geez, did you have to bring that up? The postal service and e-mail….Wow…
What’s wrong with bringing the postal service into the 21st century? Eventually all mail will go electronically. We must decide rather its best done by a quasi-government agency like the postal service or by private enterprise like the thousands of internet providers around the world. I’m sure the unions would resist the electronic post office tooth and nail, but even the unions will not be able to stop this one.
I’m a really huge fan of this site. Hope you continue updating on it. Have a good day. 😀
Thanks for being a fan and I hope you like the updated version. The sites web manager did an awesome job in reworking the template and a few more changes will be upcoming. However, the post will coming from the same old memory storage as before. Hope you will continue to come back again and again…Thanks, Pete Hester
It’s all George Bush’s fault! OK, it works for Democrats so I thought it would be a perfect, all situation explaination of the problems of the world…lol…The real reason is the Tea Party. Wait? That won’t work either. OK, OK, OK. I’ll actually try to think but it’s very, very hard. I’m not used to it at all.
