You know, if I want to learn about computers, I read a book on computers, probably something like, “Computers for Dummies”. If I want to learn English, I grab an English book, math, a math book…If I want to learn about Christianity, I read the Holy Bible….If I want to learn about Mormonism I suppose I would read the Book of Mormons….As far as I know the only book about Christianity is the Holy Bible, at least for the pure word from God…Of course, there are a lot of things I don’t know…But studying the “Book of Mormons” to learn about Christ? …..I don’t think so…Romney is ok, a good man and will probably make a good president, but sir, don’t pee down my neck and tell me its raining cause that ain’t gonna cut it….You talk about Christianity, you are talking Holy Bible….You talk about Mormons, you are talking about the book of Mormons….I checked my Bible this morning and there ain’t no Book of Mormons in there…..Catholics, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Nazarene, Episcopal, Methodist, Baptist, Assembly of God and I could go on and on, but for all of them the Holy Bible is their book. So Mr. Romney, when you teach your children out of the Holy Bible, its Christian…When you teach them from the Book of Mormon, I don’t know what that is as it is not discussed in the Holy Bible…I am not going to call you a cult member, sir, you are a good man, but I am not sure I can call you a Christian either…..Pete Hester

Come now! You don’t really believe this post. The Holy Bible is as much the Bible of the Mormon faith as it is the various sects of the Christian faith. The Mormons study the Holy Bible as much or more than the members of the other Christian sects. Obviously you do not know many Mormons. The Book of Mormon is a book, presumably found in New York by Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, written on gold plates that the Mormons hold to be sacred and directly from God. Us other Christians are treading on dangerous ground if we try to say that it is not and that the Mormons are wrong. We do not have the knowledge to do so, and we certainly do not have the right. Have you looked at the Catholic Bible lately? Take a peek into one, and you will find all the books of the Apocrypha and Pseudoepicrypha that do not appear in the various Protestant Bibles. Protestants still use the books of the Apocrypha and Pseudoepicrypha for study even though they do not consider them quite on the same level as the books of the Holy Bible. We of the so-called Christian sects likewise should read and study the Book of Mormon, even though we do not consider it quite on the same level as Holy Scripture. It has some very enlightening passages when it is studied with an open mind. The Book of Mormon is okay especially for background study of Holy Scripture although it does not, in my opinion come up quite to the same level as Holy Scripture. Please remember that the Mormons study the same Holy Scripture as do other Christians, and they believe that Scripture to be sacred and from God. Most importantly, they believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and as the Saviour of the world just as we do.
Please don’t blame Mr. Romney, or his late father George, for being Mormon. He will make an excellent Christian President, just as his father George Romney would have if the American people had not been so narrow minded and prejudiced. Believe me! Mitt Romney is okay. He is just as “Christian” as you or I because he believes in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour, as all Mormons do.
If I did not believe this post I would not have written it. Sorry….I stand by it. I never said the Mormons were not “good” I
said the Holy Bible is the Book of Christians, our base…The Book Of Mormons is something else and as far as I know has nothing
to do with the Holy Bible as it is not discussed in the Holy Scripture. You know better than to add something to the Bible. It stands alone as is, no further corrections needed. Jesus was the last covenant discussed in the Bible.
You miss the most essential part. Mormons, as a group, are not only “good”, but they are “good Christians” as well. They are most particularly very honest, which seems to be a dying trait among politicians, in particular. This is a basic reason why a Mormon would make a good President.
Just because, as far as you know the Book of Mormon has nothing to do with the Holy Bible, doesn’t mean that it doesn’t. In my opinion, an opinion which is supported by a lot of historical evidence, the Book of Mormon came out of the same religio-historical tradition as the Holy Bible, and it was likely the basic scripture of that 75% of the original Hebrew nation whom God laid His mighty hand to propagate his Will and his Plan among mankind. Many historians have simply written off that 75% as having intermarried over time and who lost their faith and disappeared from history. Some did, but some saw in the Land of Milk and Honey following the Exodus from Egypt as too crowded with the best of the land already taken. It was these blessed souls who picked up stakes and migrated eastward and northward, eventually populating all of Asia and the Americas. Over time, the message changed, as it always changes over time. The Book of Mormon, as it was revealed to Joseph Smith and as he translated it into the basic scripture of the Mormon faith, resurrected and updated the basic beliefs of the Lost People of the House of Israel for all of us to study for the renewal of our faith and our lives. We dismiss the beliefs of this 75% of the Chosen People of God to our peril.
You can call the Mormon faith a sect if you like, as it is; but so is the Baptist, who took their principle of immersion to an extreme; the “foot-washing” Baptist, who took the basic act and teaching of Jesus concerning the washing of his brethern’s feet to an extreme; the sprinkling Methodist who dumped all of that immersion crap and decided to decided to convey blessing in the form of a sprinkle, a little bit at a time; and the Catholics, who liked to convey the message in the form of elaborate ritual as the ancient Hebrew did. These all are sects, and they all worship their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in a way that is most comfortable and meaningful to them. None has a monopoly on Christ. This is the way that Christ wanted it. He wanted to be all things to all people, as he is. He did a darn good job of doing that over a long period of history, across many different languages and cultures, and many, many people. I dare anyone to try to stamp out Christianity. They may kill a particular faith group, even a particular church; but the followers of Jesus Christ will never be stamped out as long as people live. The Mormons are simply an essential and valid part of that tradition and that faith. The Book of Mormon is valid for study, for emulation, and for patterning one’s life and faith after whether or not each and every soul believes it to be Holy Scripture and a part of their Bible or not. It is an essential part of the process that brought Holy Scripture across the ages and made it available to all of us.
I’d like to make one last comment. The Holy Bible is a living, breathing, everchanging book. It changes as people change, as society change, and as nations and conditions change in the world. As soon as it becomes otherwise, then it becomes a dead book destined for the trash heap of history like the books of so many dead religions of history.
You speak of me missing, it is you missing…It has nothing to do with good…It has to do with only one book for Christians and that is the Holy Bible. The Book of Mormons may be good reading, it may a fun read, I don’t know, but it has nothing to do with being a follower of Christ. The Holy Bible is unchanging and will always be unchanging. “And the Word was God”. See the Book of John…I have nothing further to say on this matter as the Word is the Word….The Holy Bible….
Some socalled Christians are about as bull headed as the radical Muslims whom we fight the War on Terror. There was very little difference in the Christian Crusades where the “Christians” of Europe attempted to retake the Holy Land from the Muslim hordes and the radical Muslims of today who want to irradicate Israel and make the entire world one huge Muslim sea. Both missed the point that love is the central tenet of the Gospel of Christ, and it is the main principle that will save mankind from himself. Both used killing and violence to further their respective causes, that of world domination. Jesus, on the other hand, taught love as the cement which binds everyone to each other in spite of their differences. The Mormons aren’t perfect, neither are any of us. They have a history of pluralistic marriage and the suppression of women’s rights, but so does the Hebrew. The Holy Bible is a living, breathing document, ever changing to meet ever changing conditions involving the plight of man, just as Scripture has changed from the ancient Hebrew versions, to the Aramaic (the language of Jesus), to the koinie Greek of the Roman world, to the Latin, to the King James English version, and to the great modern living English translations to today, and even to who knows what versions of the future, digitized and translated into the idioms that future people will heed and understand. If the Holy Bible is unchanging in the form of versions of today, then the Holy Bible will be a dead book as soon as the people of today are gone. It is not; therefore, the Holy Bible will be around until the consummation of God’s Plan for mankind at the final judgment. The Mormons are as much a part of that Plan as the Baptist, the Catholics, and all the other segments of the Christian Faith.
I do not judge the Mormons, that’s God’s job, but the Christians have always had the Holy Bible, the Word of God, as the base of their beliefs. No other book is needed and my being good does not make me a Christian. The Holy Bible is THE book. You can have your Book of Mormons…It may be a great book. The Bible is all I need. And it’s message is unchanging…
