Did I ever tell you guys about coming home from work a while back, pulling into the drive way and a little neighbor girl was riding her bike close by when I pulled in. She rode close by and said, “Hey, Mr. Hecker.” I spoke and let the erroneous name go without correcting her. The next day when I came home, same thing, she was riding her bike and again said, “Hey, Mr. Hecker”. Well, this time I thought I should go ahead and correct her. “Honey, my name is Mr. Hester.” She quickly replied, “No it ain’t, it’s Mr. Hecker, Momma said.” It’s bad to correct a Momma so I let it go. She moved away a little later and I suppose she remembers her neighbor, “Old Mr. Hecker.” My sweetie now calls me Mr. Hecker time to time….Pete Hester

Hey! Old Mr. Hecker! It’s bad to be a grouchy old neighbor! There is one thing about kids. They know little else but to be completely honest. Grouchy or not, this is likely the way that she perceived you. But, then, it good be the way that she and her Mom heard your name, and they thought that they were pronouncing it correctly. What is young child perceives and what an adult intends to project is sometimes very different, but a young child is always very honest in their assessment of it, unless they are taught differently by a parent or another adult. You were correct in trying to correct her, but you were also corect in not overtly pushing your correction, though you might work at trying to be a better, more communicable neighbor.
I do not even understand how I stopped up here, but I assumed this publish used to be great. I do not realize who you’re however definitely you are going to a famous blogger should you are not already 😉 Cheers!
