Danny Knoll

Danny Knoll, 66, of Amarillo died Friday, March 30, 2012.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Saint Stephen United Methodist Church with Dr. Jim Smith and Charlie Cox officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in Shamrock Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.

Danny was born March 13, 1946, in Pampa to Louis Carl and Melba Reba Knoll. He passed away on March 30 after a 6½-year, courageous battle with cancer. He fought this battle without a complaint or asking “why.”

Danny was raised in Dozier and was a 1964 graduate of Samnorwood High School. He graduated from Clarendon Junior College in 1967. He married Brenda Pond on Sept. 9, 1966, in Kelton. He graduated from West Texas State University in 1970. Danny and Brenda settled and have lived in Amarillo since 1975. He worked for Diamond Shamrock, Taylor Petroleum, E-Z Serve and Coastal Transport Inc. at the time of his retirement on March 30.

Danny loved his Lord, family and friends. He was a very devoted husband of 45 years, dad and grandfather. He was a member of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church. He had a great love of horses and was a longtime member of Will Rogers Range Riders, where he was a past president and served as treasurer for many years.

Danny will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Mack Knoll; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Teed and Helen Pond; and a sister-in-law, Linda Jaggard.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Amarillo; a daughter, Kimberly Crawford of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Caleb, Chance, Aubree and Caden; a brother, Carl Knoll and wife Connie of Shamrock; three sisters-in-law, Glenda Abernethy and Sharon Tillman, both of Canyon, and Donna Knoll of Amarillo; a brother-in-law, Harry Jaggard of Canyon; an uncle and aunt, Lawrence and Dorothy Whitley of Lubbock; 20 nieces and nephews who he loved and who loved him very much, Justin and Mandy Richardson, Cody and Amanda Richardson, Kelli Marr, Karla Thetford, Kyle and Heather Abernethy, Darrell and Terri McCabe, Derek and Angie West, Brad and Davina Jaggard, Jenifer Knoll Lees, Tracy and Amy Norwood, Mike and Lisa Pursley and Christine Knoll; and his special lifelong friends, Earl and Connie Feemster and family, Chad and Stephanie, and Eddie, Christy and Ian.

The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be to Saint Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79109; Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106; or a favorite

I’m curious! Where did you meet Danny Knoll? He seems to have spent most of his life in Amarillo and West Texas. I was just wondering. I just had difficulty making the connection between Amarillo and West Texas with Carlsbad, Fort Worth, and Albuquerque. Perhaps the connection is through Coastal Transport during your truck terminal days. Just guessing!

It is nice to have a cousin who is so good at meeting people. I probably could live next door to the President of the United States without ever meeting him.

Danny was the operations person over the same territory that I had in sales. We worked as a team for about 10 years and spend many days on the road together. Plus, we took customers to the company hunting ranch in southwest Texas. During those years we developed a wonderful relationship that lasted until his death last week. Everyone should have such a friend. I am gonna miss him.

Thanks! I thought he must have been a worker friend especially when I didn’t see any interest in quartet singing on his part. Your work certanly covered a wide area.
