Excellent photograph! The photographer must have had this poor “bugger” hypnotized. He’s not burrowing in the sand. I hate to think that a sorry old lizard is the thing that’s keeping me from getting gas for my escalade, or, even, my having to pay $3.50 a gallon for the gas I do get. I always thought a lizard was like a spider: only something to step on and kill, although it does take a degree of quickness and stealth to step on a lizard. If you’re around Geico, he may asked to be stepped upon as a “photoop” if it sales insurance.
I think they have worked out a solution to where the little lizard is protected but it allows the oil companies to work around his dwelling places….You can go to New Mexico Wildlife and go to the endangered listing and the solutions to this problem are discussed. Thanks for writing. Pete
