Shootings…Not Gun Control but TV Control

I am not sure I am the one to present this message but maybe a more forceful and stronger voice can try and make my point. Have you watched what your child is watching on tv and at the movies, all the shootings, crimes of all sorts, mayhem, cruel situations of all kind. Our children grow up with that information in front of them daily, go out and do some of the things, those violent things they have watched on tv or in the movies turning loose their imaginations, and the guns get the blame for it. Every NRA member in the world and those of us that are not NRA members feel terrible about what is happening in our world and literally cry we feel so badly that these things happen. But they know what I know, its not the guns, it is the twisted world in which we live. We, as parents, let out children watch that crap from the time they are toddlers until they are young adults and some of them believe it, they try to emulate it, it looks so exciting on tv, they can do it they feel…..Yeah, lets blame the gun and lack of gun control until only the crooks have the guns and then everything will be ok….Another movie plot is exactly what you are asking for with that attitude, that we will live happily ever after…..Folks, all our hearts are heavy with these precious people dying in Newtown and all the other places this is happening….But, it AIN”T the guns, I’m sorry, but it ain’t the guns….Give America one generation with no violence on tv or the movies and I promise you a better, safer, saner America…..Pete

Amen! Wasn’t a mere two days before the Newtown incident that a radical Hollywood actor by the name of Jamie Fox delivered his rant “to kill all white people, to kill their parents, their grandparents, yes, even to kill their little kids.” And the Media gave worldwide publicity to it all. The mainstream Media never condemned him. anyone can easily guess why. Only Fox gave it a hearing, and it would not turn it loose.

In the case of the incident in Newtown, I take a little different perspective. The Media kept interviewing people who said that they could not understand why Adam could be prompted to do such a thing and that he must have had a criminal mind and even crazy. The young man was a very smart kid. He certainly knew how to use a weapon, and he knew how to shoot for a 20 year ole. He wasn’t crazy, and he had no “criminal” mind. The problems of Adam can be traced directly to the divorce of his parents. Both brothers were devestated by that divorce. The older brother was lucky. He moved out of the house and went off to college shortly after his parent’s divorce, but Adam, the younger, was forced to stay in the house with his mother whom he increasingly, in his own mind, determined to be most at fault in the divorce and in his own personal situation. The root cause was the divorce, the failure to resolve the problems of the divorce afterward, and perhaps the problems in the relationship of the parents that let up to the divorce. It had nothing to do with guns. The Mom was a survivalist. That’s okay. She probably needed to be after the divorce when she was living in a big house alone with two young boys. She obviously did not handle it very well. Although she obviously did a marvelous job of teaching Adam how to use the weapons, she did not secure them, and she obviously did not teach him the rudiments of gun safety as well as the evil that the guns can do.

The most scary thing about the entire incident is that this lady worked as a teacher in the public school system. Yike! And the public school administration did not even know what was going on. It may really be time to consider home schooling, or, at least, church schools. At least, the church schools undergird their education with a grounding of Christian and religious truth that will serve as a foundation later for the student as he or she sort all the various information received and decide between good and evil. If I had a kid today, he or she would be either home schooled or sent to a Christian school. It’s that simple. I’m done with the public schools in the USA.

You want hear in the Media about the divorce being the root cause of the Newtown incident. Instead I’m afraid you will see a movement to turn our schools into fortified fortresses with steel bars on every window and door, metal detectors at every entrance, and cameras every few yards at a cost of millions of dollars. I can see it now. Come to America where your kids will receive a free, quality education inside a prison barred from the outside world without even mentioning that the real problem is within ourselves and within our homes that produce the kids.

I’m sorry Errol – are you suggesting it was the public school teachers fault or somehow the fault of public school teachers in general?

Since my earlier comments were not posted I would like to mention this – recent stories confirm that the shooter’s mother was not, nor had ever been, a public school teacher – in fact it turns out she home schooled her son. So Errol it seems that this, like so many of your comments on this blog, is complete and utter hogwash.

However you look at the situtation, it’s bad…No easy solutions. And mentally unstable people need to be watched continious by their caretakers, guns sales should be monitored more closely, violate games should not be played by children and children really do need both parents. How do we do that? I don’t know, but if one fathers a child he is signed on for life in my opinion…..I may be the only one who thinks that…Good comments, Errol, thank you…Pete

Sorry, Jerry, I was not available yesterday and did not read your comments until this morning. Here are your comments and I will leave it to Errol to comment on the statements directed to him. Thanks for coming by Jerry and we appreciate your comments. Pete

Jerry, I never said anywhere in my blog that Adam’s mother was a certified, career, professional public school teacher, but she did spend a lot of time working with the kids in that particular school. In fact, this is the main reason that has been suggested that provided the motivation for Adam to continue his shooting rampage at the school where his mother had spent so much time. He was jealous of those kids because, in his own twisted, untrained, and improperly developed mind, he thought that his mother loved them more than he loved her own son. He targeted thse kids with whom his mother had worked. This belief in mis-directed love can set off almost any kid into a mad rampage, twisted or not, although most will never go to the extent that this kid did. Lately, it has come out from a neighbor that the mother was considering involuntarily committing Adam to a psychiatric institution and that made him mad, and set him off into the rampage. That is understandable. His mother should have known that and should have taken necessary precautions. She certainly never should have gone to sleep in a room with unsecured doors in the same house with the kid when the kid had free access to the same guns that she had trained him on. But the problems of Adam all are traceable back to his parent’s divorce, especially his view of the divorce, and his view of who was to blame. Adam was obviously a psychiatric nut case on Friday, December 14, 2012 when he did the shooting, but he was not always a nut case. Someone and some situation made him that way. He was driven over the brink by the unfortunate divorce of his parents, and their (especially his Mom’s) inability to deal with the situation created by the divorce and still provide a loving, secure home and a positive training environment for her son. Yes, he was home schooled, but not until after the event of the divorce and after his older brother had moved out of the home to go to college leaving the younger son with a Mom who obviously did not know how to properly train and educate her son.

I’m sorry, I did not address Jerry’s public school teacher commit. No, I am not suggesting that all public school teachers, any particular teachers, or public schools in general were at fault in the Newtown case. I only suggested that the administration of this particular Newtown school did not know what was going on when it allowed this divorced woman who was maintaining an arsenal of high powered weapons in her home and training her son to use them without the proper discipline of background instruction, to come into the school and serve as an instructor or teacher’s assistant inside the school. I realize that the administration probably had no way of knowing about the home situation of this particular person, but it is my view that it would be much less likely to occur in a church school where all the teachers and the administration are thorougly grounded in the Christian faith and are vetted by that faith long before accepting a job to teach or work in a parochial school.

I meant home schooling only as a last resort to a failed public school system where God and basic religious instruction have been forceably removed by a godless Supreme Court. I mentioned home schooling because it is becoming increasingly more prevalent, and it should be considered at least in those homes where the parents are qualified to home school. It is noted that there has been a tremendous increase in request for home shooling information across this land just since the Newtown event occurred.

Our hearts are very heavy no matter what caused this terrible ordeal. There are no words that can really ease the pain of the folks who’s precious children and loved ones who were involved in this. Folks we are all so sorry this happened and our thoughts and prayers go out to you. Pete Hester
