I happened to need an oil change today and spent about 1 1/2 hours or so at Brakemaster’s waiting on an oil change. It was a very fast 1 1/2 hours as I spent the time visiting with Andrew Thomas who was also waiting. It was a very interesting time spent with this world traveler and hearing of the countries that he has toured and visiting with him on other numerous subjects, ie, Navajo Code Talkers of WWII and how they formulated the codes based on the Navajo language. Words in English that start with an A may start with a W in Navajo. That was a turning point in World War Two and I expressed my thanks to those Code Talkers for their input. That was a part of several topics that we covered. Goggle Andrew and read his bio and even listen to some of his music, as I did. If you happen to come by this site Andrew I would like to say that it was a pleasure visiting with you and maybe I will see you at the Navajo Cultural Center on my next visit. Pete Hester

You hit the nail squarely on the head!. This is exactly what I grew, after that first grueling year, to like about Albuquerque and the region. It wasn’t the weather. It wasn’t the climate. It wasn’t even the “enchantment”. It wasn’t even the uniqueness, the difference, or the stangeness of the area. Instead, it was the people. I had grown up in a community in Alabama where I knew everyone and was related to most of them; and names constantly came by me that I didn’t know that went back to the American Civil War, most of whom were related, more or less, to me. I soon found out that, in Albuquerque, one good never tell what stranger one might run into in the street or sat by in church, many of whom might even be famous. For the first time imy life, the pages of history began to come alive and life became much more interesting. Although I never had much contact with the Navajo, my teaching of Sunday School at Isleta and Jemez made me realize the people could be so different and still be so good. Albuquerque was a mind-broadner for an old Alabama hick like me.

Incidentally, who is this Andrew Thomas? I googled Andrew Thomas and got perhaps a thousand Andrew Thomas’ from around the United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom. Out of the immense list, I haven’t found one yet with any connection to Albuquerque, New Mexico, or the Navajo people. This one wouldn’t be the former Maricopa County Attorney General and now disbarred attorney following other pursuits, would it? If so, Albuquerque may be an excellent place to hide from his many enemies. zzzzzzin any event, I will keep searching through the mountain of Andrew Thomas’. I’ll try seaching for simply Andrew. The Navajo may not believe in family surnames.

search for Andrew Thomas, Navajo Flutist and see what you get….

Thanks! It’s another case of not giving google enough information and getting garbage. It may be Googles’ version of “garbage in and garbage out”.
