Fishing Trip

Here is a picture of the two boats used on our outing. Both are two man but they worked great. The red raft type boat had a six horse outboard and would really get you across the lake in a hurry and  it also had the trolling motor. The crew worked them over pretty good, but the bank fishing was ok also.2013 fishing trip 003Our top fishermen were no. 1 son in law and no. 3 grandson, shown here with the first stringer full of fish they caught. There was a nice bass in this bunch of fish and was the only bass caught on the trip. (Pickups in the background haul the 4 wheelers used on the trip.)

There is no doubt about it. Pete has made some progress from fishing on the banks of Coal Fire Creek, but I’m still missing the trees. The mountains in the background look a lot like the highlands of South Viet Nam after they were treated with Agent Orange. In this case, it must be the drought and fire (or is the elevation here above the treeline?). I must write just a word about the fishermen shown here. The skinny one looks like a Hester. The big, baldheaded one must be an in law. I love to see so many in one family with such similar interests. It’s not like my family where there is a fisherman here, a budding scientist there, and a want-a-be musician over there with no common interest in between.

Number three grand son reminds me a lot of Jessie Blanton Hester, my grandfather. The one you reference as big, etc, is a son-in-law, but he started coming around our house when he was about 16 years old. So to me, he is another son, and to my family he is like a big brother. I think the feeling is mutual as he is very involved with all our lives. Our main family tie is the love we share for one another and our love for Christ, which far out weights any differences we may have.

I don’t even remember Blanton Hester, other than the sound of the name when it was mentioned by my Dad. It just goes to show that the genes are repeated in just about every generation as the years march by.
