Ghost Ranch, NM….Home of Georgia O’Keeffe

We had an exciting weekend, visiting the home of one of New Mexico’s most famous people. Yes, home to Georgia O’Keeffe and also to plenty of archaeology stuff, one site dating back 8000 years, another 2000 years. (Finally something older than me.) Paleontology of Ghost Ranch, yes sir, plenty of paleontology….back to the Triassic period and, er, that’s also older than me…Home to the Coelophysis, the New Mexico state fossil found in 1947 and by the way, he is kind of a little feller…..You can take the Georgia O’Keeffe walking tour, and see the prints of her paintings in the exact spot she painted them. Awesome, huh…You did know they made a bunch of movies at Ghost Ranch? Oh, you didn’t…Well they did!….City Slickers….old Curly was something else in that. (Good places to take your treasures for hiding.)….Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull…Cowboys and Aliens….3:10 to Yuma….The Missing…Comanche Moon and Georgia O’Keeffe…It was time well spent for Sweetie, number 2 daughter and myself….I really enjoyed it. But, I did not find Mr. Fenn’s Treasure, however, I suspect it is up there in that general area. That is really his part of the world. Mr. Fenn’s treasure is not in some exotic place, not buried says he. No sir, the man placed it up some dry canyon that flows water during the infrequent rain storms so he would have easy walking and then he stepped off the dry canyon a few feet and placed his load behind a small bush…..I’ll bet you a one dollar bill on that….I did not see it on my trip….I may go back…Well, if you are going I will just wait for a spell. Let me know, will you?  Oh, you may not find the treasure, but you will enjoy the trip……Thanks, Pete

You just found Mr. Fenn’s treasure. It is paleontological and archaeological, very old, and perhaps worthless, at least, to old Mr. Fenn. That finally explains why he is given it away. He is giving away a treasure that is worthless on today’s market. Go back a few thousand years, and you will find Mr. Fenn’s treasure. It’s not in a bank in Beverly Hills after all. A museum may have it, but not a bank.

Mr. Fenn says it is there. So you will have to take it up with him. However, the Ghost Ranch area is a treasure with a nice lake nearby. I think his money is in a bank in Santa Fe or better said, several banks in Santa Fe. Pete

I still prefer the historical and archaeological type of treasure. Mr. Fenn was an amateur archaeologist and a dealer in artifacts. The treasure is there, but it is not the kind of treasure that one can take to the bank although it may be worth something over time on the artifact market. Fenn’s treasure is not the kind of treasure in which Coronado and the Spanish conquistadors were searching. It is only the kind of treasure that would interest a young archaeologist and an artifact collecting nut. That is my opinion. Mr. Fenn is trying to encourage archaeological study and artifact hunting, not real treasure hunting in terms of gold and money.

Well, of course I don’t know for sure, however, Mr. Fenn went on national TV and told all the things that he had buried….several times he was on TV saying there were gold nuggets, gold coins, and other items of real value….he even stated over 250,000 dollars in value….Again, I don’t know, but he says…I’m just taking him at his word….I believe most folks….Pete

If this is true, then the guy is a “nut”. He must be a squirrel. Only squirrels go around burying (and re-burying) their treasure. I don’t think that Mr. Fenn is a squirrel. I still prefer the archaeological and artifact explanation of his “treasure”.
