Albuquerque Journal, Wednesday, October 2, 2013, Ruben Navarrette, Jr., article, “Both Parties to Blame for mess”….Mr. Navarrette, you wrote a very good article and covered both sides of the aisle very well. Inaction has shut down our government. Many thousands of people are not getting paid, the economy is losing the gains we made in recent months, our security is jeopardized, and on and on it goes. It’s crazy. Congressmen, get your act together and get the government back on track. Do your jobs. What a wreck you all are making of America. Mr. Navarrette said in his closing paragraph, “You would think that constantly emphasizing who stands to catch the blame would create an incentive for those people to do the right thing. Instead, it pushes the other side to do nothing but sit back and watch their adversaries flounder-while the American people suffer…….” Nice article, Ruben, and well said…. I am sick of the b s being born in Washington and flushed down to the United States of America and called Justice. Are most congressmen lawyers? Just wondered……..Pete Hester
Sorry! I must disagree with the kind webmaster as well as Mr. Navarrette, and I will write Mr. Navarrette and tell him so also. It is not inaction that has shut down the government. The Reoublican controlled House of Representatives has passed bill after bill and offered alternative after alternative to solve the mess that the government is in, but Mr. Reid, a surrogate of President Obama, will have nothing to do with any of them, always saying “dead on arrival”. Besides, 85% of the government is being funded through this shutdown. Very few have lost jobs as of yet. A few have been furloughed without pay, but most of them will eventually recover most of that as they did during the Clinton shutdown in the Nineties. The Federal payroll is so outrageous that there is no need to worry about a few pennies of loss of people who do so very little to earn it.
It is about time that someone stood up to fight this President and his surrogates in the Senate. I must say that I was surprised by the stamina of John Boehner and the Tea Party representation in the House of Representatives, but they are doing no less than they were elected to do. In short, stop blaming our elected representatives. If you insist on blaming anyone, then blame the millions of voters across this land that elected a divided government in the first place. Our government is only as divided as the country. It is only as divided as the millions of voters across this land. Barack Obama was only re-elected in 2012 by a small majority in only two states where three all black precincts turned out a 100% vote in his favor by means of brutal thugs armed with guns that demanded a vote a certain way. He was never legitimately re-elected. These thugs in Philadelphia and Cleveland by force through the large states of Pennsylvania and Ohio into the democratic column providing the win that Obama needed. There is no other explanation possible for his “win”. Nothing is ever heard about it in the mainstream Media, which does not listen to Fox News demand for an investigation. The people will not even demand an investigation for fear of being branded a racist, so we are getting what we deserve. At least, the fight goes on. Out of the fight, a better, less racist nation will arise. If you don’t like my comments, then shut them off and shut down this website.
Shutting down the government completely can never be right no matter how many people, books, stats or whatever else you want to quote. It is completely stupid, irrational, insensitive, uncaring, unchristian and arrogant. You can write all you want to but it is unchanging in my eyes and those of most of the citizen of the USA.
