New Mexico State Rep: Karen Giannini

Seems like I am surprised by something nearly every day anymore. Listen to this: State Rep. Karen Giannini defeated Republican Justine Fox-Young for a seat as New Mexico State Representative and raised only $675.00 in campaign contributions. She was the only one running in the state primary election and spent little running against Fox-Young. She said she knew a lot of the local school people and the labor people and that was it. She went to sleep election night trailing Fox-Young and woke the next morning the victor. Amazing….absolutely amazing….We vote for the party not the person, don’t we…I am sure Rep. Giannini is a fine upstanding young woman, but 675.00. That’s not enough for stamps, is it? ….She is looking for contributions now, however, so one wonders about the next election….well, for that or for whatever they use campaign contributions for….

Don’t worry! Karen Giannini is now in the State Legislature. She won’t need campaign contributions. She will be able to join Governor Bill Richardson on his many junkets abroad. Why beg for money when one can simply spend the taxpayer’s money? Isn’t that what our government is all about? Who knows? Karen may even be able to to something that Governor Bill was unable to do: get a Cuban cigar for Pete.
Yeah, like most all the voters, its “what can you do for me?”
I don’t know this young lady so I don’t want to be to negative, however, one gets stung so many times one just gets leary of even honest ones….Anyway, I will follow her career with interest now…Pete
Errol and Pete,
Not to worry, I’m not interested in spending time on junkets abroad – we have real issues and concerns here in the state that need attention – and that’s where my job lies.
You are probably aware that legislators in New Mexico are volunteers – we do not get a paid salary for the work we perform for our constituents or the state. We receive a per diem for the days we are in committees or sessions to the tune of $145/day. This is the money we use for lodging, meals and mileage (when less than 100 miles from home).
I have tried to be as honest and upstanding as I can be and I hope you will fllow my career and see for yourself my actions and words. If you’d like to meet and talk with me, please get in contact with me anytime (400-7550, NMHouseDistrict30@live.com)
Who knows, you might have just found a politician you can believe in! (and maybe you’ll send a contribution too!)
Karen, thanks for your response. I will follow your career with interest and I hope you will come back to my web site from time to time. I may take you up on a later contact to see how your life in the “fast lane” is going. Pete Hester
