Writer’s Write, Right?

Wrong…..Writers write most of the time but writer’s block comes along and messes everything up. It is hard to explain…seems like you could just start typing words and unblock the blockage……nope, does not work that way. So I simply write what I have on my mind, or I don’t write at all. Lately, well, in truth, ever since I turned 80 I have hit this wall and it’s like skidding logs. You got to have some real power to skid logs. Back in the old days we used a mule or a team of mules or horses, then tractors and today they have the modern tools to cut and skid them. So, it’s muscle or tools for skidding logs. I don’t have the muscle or tools (brain power) to get around or through this blockage…… I have written about three more chapters to “Follow the Sun” and was feeling pretty good about completing it and wham, another blockage. I would put a chapter or two on the site for you to read, but I may need to change some things to make it all tie together, time wise and plot wise. If you have any idea’s on unblocking writers block, please feel free to make a comment of two. Thanks……Any help would be appreciated.

About all that I can say to someone with writer’s block is to “Keep trying”. That’s the most important thing because anyone who has a functioning mind will write sooner or later. If he don’t write, then he will talk. If he don’t see fit to talk, then he will retreat into a corner of the woods and just contemplate and muse on what “would have been” if he could have written. My favorite technique in overcoming writer’s block that rises above all of these is to relax, close my eyes, and, rather, on a typewriter or a word processor, just let the words flow as they run through my mind without regard to grammar, writing technique, or style and even without regard to meaning. When one does this, however, it is important to not let anyone read it until after a good night’s sleep because, more often than not, what you have written is just garbage and should not see the light of day. At the same time, it is surprising how much it does to overcome the cause of writer’s block just by giving all the garbage in your mind an exit. Everyone must develop his or her own technique, but this one has helped me in the past.
I’ll give it a try…thanks
