Military Spending!!!

The budget for the U.S. Military is almost larger than all of the other nations military spending combined. It has been our history to defend the little guy, those not able to defend themselves, etc. I don’t have  a problem with that…But don’t we need to take care of our own…Some battles have been so costly in money, in lives, in equipment and weapons, and care for our wounded men for the duration of their injuries, from many years to forever… Then,  we still get bad mouthed world wide, stoned, shoes thrown at us, and all manner of evil said about us and yet we send our young men to defend them, help them, feed them in many cases and I don’t know what all else…Well, my friend, I am personally tired off it….I am not willing for one more young man or woman to die in some foreign land when those people could care less that our young people are dying…It is not right…The rest of the world can kind of take up some of the slack…We are head over heals in debt, we have trouble providing for our seniors, our disabled, our homeland police and keeping our military ever ready to protect us at home…I’m tired…It is not right when a young man or woman is fighting in Iraq or some other country and his own family does not have the necessary money to feed and take care of themselves….I’m tired of   terrorist coming into our country trying to destroy us, we need the homeland protection…It’s not right….I’m tired of seeing the nightly news and the flagged draped coffins being unloaded off military aircraft with our young men and women who have died protecting those people who should be taking care of themselves..at least trying…and the national treasury of Iraq is full of money from the sale of oil…Come on…I’m tired of the financial responsibility falling on the shoulders of you and I to take care of those countries…What about you? How do you feel?….Well, I’m tired of it all and I think bringing our troops home from overseas and taking that money and use a few dollars of it on health care and fixing our own problems…

Pete,

The real reason our military spending is so much higher than that of any other nation on earth is that the salaries and benefits (after a mere 20 years of service) that DOD personnel receive is so much higher than anywhere else in the world. Also, the American people insist on providing our soldiers with weapons on the cutting edge of technology, which only adds to the DOD expense. We can no longer send our soldiers into battle with rifles that were left over from a war 50 years ago and get by with it. They must have the best weapons that the best technology can produce, which means that our military must continually invest billions of dollars researching new tecnology. This also adds to the cost. It is not the time to retrench behind a wall built around our shores while Al Gaeda and the Taliban are flexing their muscles.

You are tired, Pete. So am I. We are getting old. The young will have to continue the fight; or, else, our democracy is finished forever.

For every billion dollars spent on researching new weapons technology, another billion is spent researching techniques that result in dead ends. That is just the way that research works, but it is still essential if our troops are to have the best weaponry that technology can produce.

I don’t disagree with you on weapon technology, but I do disagree with fighting in countries that will never be democratic…I repeat, never…They are unchanging in my humble opinion and I am really upset over losing our troops for an uncaring country…They have good people also and some of the other nations can step up to the plate and do a little more than they are…The whole world has suddenly became America’s burden and I believe it is to heavy a weigh for us to bear….Many of us are tired of carrying this load…Just my opinion, my friend, and many have fought and died so we each can voice our opinions..Thanks for the comments…
