Oct. 22, 2009, Albuquerque Journal, Staff Report has an article titled, “Hatchery eyes more than fish” and I want to put in my two cents. It states in part :….The department is beginning the second phase of it’s warm water hatchery development at Rock Lake, which includes construction of the Pecos Watershed Education Center…the agency is looking for partners….That is great news to me. I hope some of our educational sources get involved…. I toured the hatchery some time ago and was really impressed by it. I did not know about the number of fish produced annually by the hatchery as was stated in the article: 300,000 rainbow trout, it is holding about a million catfish and produces about 20 million walleye fry every year…The hatchery is 2 miles south of Santa Rosa and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day…Really, if you have not spent a little time in Santa Rosa, do yourself a favor and visit there…You will be pleasantly surprised…The hatchery, Blue Hole, the lake (I don’t know it’s name) that has an sunken airplane in it for rescue training…No, I did not personally see that, someone told me that….The river runs through the town and Santa Rosa Lake is close by…All that stuff…A lot of us pass through there on our way to somewhere else…Make plans to stop and spend some time there….You will enjoy it…..Pete Hester
