Its early yet, but it looks to me like it will come down to BYU and TCU controlling the conference….Utah or Air Force third ….Maybe UNLV in that battle for third….I first thought that Colorado State would be in the mix but I mis-judged U of Colorado’s strength….I am not counting out Wyoming, San Diego State or New Mexico but I am waiting on them for a few more games…It’s a long season, things happen and teams get better..sometimes (I hope)….The Lobo’s better work hard this week ’cause Air Force looked pretty good against Minnesota, a 3 point loss….Last week, none of the breaks went the Lobo’s way.Maybe that will change and if we can come up with a running game…well, we could…I’m  pretty sure we could, couldn’t we?…I hope we can……

Never forget….You can’t nor can I….For me this date was a double wammy. My Mom passed away in Alabama on Sept. 10, 2001 and my wife and I had a flight set up from Albuquerque to Birmingham the early morning of 9/11/01. We knew something was happening before we left the house that morning, but by the time we got to the airport, all flights had been grounded. So we made a hurried car trip to Alabama. We arrived just in time for the viewing the next day. We listened to the radio all the way for further news of attacks and watched the gas prices spirial upwards until it was stopped and ruled as gouging by congress, (or whoever). I was grieving over my Mom and grieving for all my fellow Americans that we lost, trying to sort out what was happening. That was a terrible time for us all. Let us all take a moment today and remember those we lost during that time and pray that God will protect us from any further attacks….Amen?

I did a post a while back about staying with the one you married…And I believe you should, under normal circumstances.  If, however, you are in an abusive relationship, it is altogether different. Let me pass my story on to you: I loved my parents as much as any child could love parents. They loved me and I felt the love. But, when I was small, probably three or four through seven or eight, every Friday night after getting paid and visiting the beer joints, my sweet, caring Dad became a drunken, abusive, husband. He never beat me in any way, but he would threaten my mom with her life and I witnessed Mom wrestling him for a rifle that he was going to use to shoot her, and as a child I would come between them and try to reason with them, literally begging them not to hurt one another; there were many other instances, including knives,  that I really do not care to repeat…It is still a touchy subject with me, but I want to write about it since you may know someone that this is happening to today. No child should have to witness that type behaviour at anytime. Drinking and or drugs changes an otherwise loving person. I survived, but with many scars. Dad changed after a few years of this hellish behavior. If you or a loved one of yours is experiencing similar to what I did, give the guilty person the opportunity to change, but if they will not change, you need to get away from them. More importantly, get your children away from them. I told you earlier about witnessing to my Dad a few month before he died at age 94. He’s in Heaven. He was a wonderful person, sober, and he was sober for probably his last sixty years…Drunk, he was a beast. I did not tell this story to belittle my Dad, not in any way, but hopefully this candid story will  help someone else that may be suffering….if so, please don’t let it continue….Pete

BYU Football

Well, I am not really a BYU fan, but they do represent the Mountain West Conference and they respresent it well, no doubt….I watched them play Oklahoma…A great football game..I hated to see Bradford get hurt, but I do not think they lose much since Landry Jones is such a good quarterback himself, and by season’s end, he may be better than Bradford. If any team in the nation has only one person for a position you can pretty well count them out as national champions…BYU may have a shot…They looked good…but does Hall have a back up?…Mendenhall is a good’un, ain’t he?……he will figure it out….

Football coach

I really do not know how much money there is in the world. Gotta to be over 9 trillion, huh? since that’s our debt….But, however much is in the world, I would not be a football coach if I were paid that much. I like to please some of the people some of the time…I don’t think a football coach can please anyone, anytime…Already here in Albuquerque we hear the boo birds and nay sayers….our first year coach is 0 – 1 and we are screaming…I hope he wins some games, I hope he wins a lot of games, but that said, it’s still a game…It’s not life or death and there are about 80 young men out on that field that are learning some very important lessons and everyone of them want to win as well…Come on people, back the team, back the school, back the coach..I can guarantee you he will give this team and this school his very best, every day…can we do less?..

Floyd, NM

You  know, this week I drove through Floyd, twice, on my way to and from Portales. Floyd is very important to me. About a thousand years ago, in the First Baptist Parsonage there in Floyd, I was married for the first time…..Well, I guess for the last time too, since it stuck….She ain’t kicked me out, yet anyway….Two kids, marrying up to face life together…And we have…Wasn’t always easy, for her anyway and at times I guess I had my doubts about us making it, but it did not last long…God just kept on Blessing us with children..Took both of us to keep them fed and clothes on their backs but not much was left over. A lot of you folks today know what I’m talking about. For some reason, at times, grass in your neighbors pasture looks greener than yours until you step over in it and look at it up close…..Not a bit greener than yours, just different….So take it from an old boy married years ago at a little Baptist parsonage in Floyd, NM, you just keep on “dancing with the one what brung ” you to the dance. Then when you get my age you will be so thankful that you stuck it out….Listen to me, now, listen to me….

Woe is me!!!!

New Mexico Lobos got beat, bad…..New Mexico State got beat, bad…New Mexico Highlands got beat, bad….Western New Mexico won, good….beat up on Sul Ross…I don’t know about Eastern New Mexico yet, but I think they may have lost…ok, guys, so you are 0 – 1…next week is a different time and place….practice hard and go get’um….Alabama  won, beat a good team in Virginia Tech too…My two Baptist teams did pretty good for playing each other…Baylor beat Wake Forest by about 3 points…I wonder if they say, God Bless You after they hit one another, reckon?…Probably not…..But they might…

Labor Day

To all  of you who labor for your families, we salute you. You have earned a day of rest, and we hope it is a good, peaceful day for you and your family. Which reminds me, I need to ask the Boss for the day off….She has been in a pretty good mood lately so it may fly…Things are in pretty good shape on the outside of the house….I would ask for a raise, but…It has been a while since she has had a raise herself, so it could end up costing me more that I want to pay…What do you think?…Keeping my mouth shut may be the more prudent thing, huh?,,,,,

How many of you guys and girls play 42…Its a game of domino’s   for those of you who do not know…My bud-in-law and I get our butts beat soundly pretty regular….Lately, things have changed…We are beating our ladies so badly we are beginning to feel sorry for them, however, we don’t dare tell them that…I have had two outstanding big’n hands just lately…My bud-in-law has had some outstanding seven’s hands….We may have to lose a couple on purpose if we keep playing this good…For your information, neither of our wives read this post, so I can safely write all this stuff….I hope
