According to this morning’s paper, 60 percent of the non-Hispanic interviewed was for the tougher Arizona immigration law while only 20 percent of Hispanic was for tougher immigration laws…..well, dud!!!!!!….But I know Americans of Hispanic lineage who are for tougher laws on the illegals…They are paying taxes and know the economic shape America is in and also know that it cannot continue…..I also think the 60 percent is a low number as a lot will not speak up….

Writing fiction is hard….Writing facts are easy….You write facts and tell about all that happened and you can lie a little bit in the narration, as long as you are not hurting the story, especially if the facts are not all that interesting…not so with fiction, you are making up the story as you go, all lies if you will, and occasionally you throw in a few facts, to make the lies interesting or believeable or maybe to add color to the awful lies you been telling….I mean, facts are strange and weird and scary, there just ain’t no “good news”…no what I mean, Vern….A guy like that King fellow that sells all those books, you know the one I mean….his writing don’t really scare us…we read the newspaper every day and that is where the scary stories are..facts with a few lies tossed in here and there to make it interesting, but me, a fiction writer…I sit here and try to make up lie after lie and most of them are not scary, nor funny, er, ah, nor interesting….I need a few facts, man I can get after them dang old facts, adding a lie or two here or there….I might change and write about “Climate Change in a Changing World” ….a world where all the stories flowing across cyberspace are interfering with…..well, I don’t want to tell you too much just yet and have you steal my story…..Or a sports writer, writing facts about how the BCS is right and there are only a couple of conferences worthy of the national championship, then add a lie or two here and there…I think I am on to something….I’m gonna think on it some and get back to you, ok?… STAND BY FOR NEWS……..

My goodness….The tornadoes that swept through Oklahoma were vicious, huh? I saw the picture of the Love’s truck stop, totally destroyed… and some of the residents homes, nothing but a little lumber left…This may be a long summer….Our thoughts and prayers go out to those people who are enduring the hardships caused by those storms…

I am not sure what I have and I would like to call it “writer’s block” as that seems more, how shall we say, sophisticated…but really it’s not blocked, it’s drained…Nothing up there…I fear I have written it all out…I need to read Elmer Kelton, Johnny Boggs or someone to restore all the information that has been taken out…you know, the tumbling tumble weeds, blue shadows on the trail, wagon wheels and ghost riders in the sky….but all is gone, in this case, it may not be all that much, but even so, it’s gone….I did get my hero back from the chase of the bad guys, he got shot, again, his sweetie has turned to other arms and the other arms is the son of his employer…well, I took him home to rest up and recover….He has got to go back, that’s all there is to it…but my problem is, what the hell is he gonna do when he gets there…It ain’t looking to good for him at this point and in my pea brain, working out these complex problems are tough….what to do?, what to do?….I had a plan A, but decided to go with plan B, now then I have dropped way down the alphabet, I just cannot put a letter assignment to it yet…somewhere around Q I’d say…..His name is J. I., well, Judge Iverson Hall, Jr, to be exact…He is a tough dude, a little slow on the draw but not afraid to hang in there staring down the old gun barrel, I just need some stories to go with the guts, know what I mean….Well, I’ll keep reading the daily news, plenty of blood and guts and stories in there, huh? I just wish it was fiction…..Pete

No. 2 daughter loved her Chocolate Labrador Retriever named Duke. He belonged to her significant other, so he was grown when she met Duke, but she grew to love him. The things she has to tell about him also are some of the things they say about the breed. 1. Labs don’t like being alone…. “If left alone Duke would start howling and crying needing some attention. Once he figured out how to unlock the door on the motor home. But one time he locked the door with them outside and they were crying for Duke to let them in. 2. Labs love the water and will even catch fish…. He would swim to the bottom of the lake and retrieve rocks and bring them back to the camp fire. Once, they built a firepit out of the rocks brought up by Duke. He also would catch fish. 3. Labs are easy going and good natured…. No. 2 daughter reports that the feeling was mutual between her “other” and Duke. They loved one another deeply and the sorrow he felt when he lost Duke was like losing a special friend. He had a rack built on the back of his four wheeler where Duke would ride. If the four wheeler was moving Duke felt like he was suppose to be on it. Once, they forget to set the brake and it started rolling off on it’s own and Duke went barking and chasing it and they were able to catch it and put it in gear. There was a big cliff nearby so Duke saved his ride…. I got to meet Duke after he was kind of my age in dog years, maybe a little older, and I can attest to the fact that he was a special dog and is missed by all who knew him….Thanks to no. 2 daughter for sharing Duke and his life with us….Did you know they are one of the more popular breeds in America?…..

Well, in my downloads there is a short story about “Fats and Punky’s Monster” which stated that when Fats was following a girl watching her backside that he forgot all about monsters. So, yesterday, down at Burger King while ordering a number one combo, I forgot all about illegal immigrants, forgot all about the economy, forgot about most everything else going on….and I was looking at the front side….amazing is a good term….I mean the big lungs, er, ah, the what-ja-call-its and the short skirt that did not cover hardly any of the cute legs, made the old no. 1 combo taste better than it has for a while….and for 30 minutes or so yesterday I had a “fresh” mind….yeah, I know I’m old…but I ain’t dead and I suppose day dreaming still happens..But, Fats, for driving away monsters, the front side ain’t bad either….

Have you ever read an article by a certain writer and asked yourself, “what the hell did he say” or “which side of the fence is he on”…..Those people who have mastered the art of writing nothing and make it seem astounding. I suppose the art of dancing around a subject matter is what gets us to the top. Well, I am not even close, one, to being called a writer; and two, I say what I have to say…and unless I screw up the useage of the King’s English, you the readers know what I say and know what I mean…..Case in point….I am a Christian…a fairly conversative Christian….I am a conservative in economics, investments, politics,….a died in the wool American….I pray for our leaders and I pray to God the Father, asking Christ the Son to intercede for me and for the Holy Spirit to guide me daily….In other words, I don’t have a problem being open to your opinion of me….good or bad…I am who I am…..and I make tons of mistakes every day….My question is this, are you that open?…Do you have all these opinions bottled up inside and are afraid to share them, afraid of someone coming down on you for feeling as you do?….Why is this important to you?….I just think that we all need to take a stand, it does not have to be my stand, but stand for something….”There’s a tree, out in the back yard, that never has been broken by the wind; and the reason it’s still standing, it was strong enough to bend”…That is the words of a song that tells us to bend with most of life’s issues and I don’t totally disagree with that, we do have to bend…..But I can bend and not surrender any of my values…..Years ago I came to New Mexico from Alabama and I immediately fell in love the the Mexican people, it’s culture and it’s food…Some of my best friends are Mexican-Americans and Mexicans and they are some of the hardest working, strongest believing Christian people you will ever meet….They are a good, hard working, fun loving people…..They will take the jobs that a lot of us do not want, do not like and are happy that they are willing to handle that job….But, my Mexican friends, you know we are a nation that is teetering on broke, as in, no money and it is getting worse….We love you and love what you do for us and we don’t want to profile and be ugly, but it is coming down to taking care of our own….Every one of you that know me, and I am speaking to the many Mexican friends I have made over the years, know I am speaking from the heart, your cousins and sisters and brothers and buddies that do not have a green card have got to go home….It is a necessity…it has to happen and the truth is, you know it as well as I….I am not happy about it, but it is a fact…We are broke and are going to be lucky to recover….Go get your green card and pray that God will bless America once again….

Boots Bella Callie Missy The Hester grand cats belonging to No. 1 son’s family. They work hard hunting birds and bats..They are resting here getting ready for the next hunt. No. 1 son has stories about his little kitties, but I screwed it up and the stories are now floating around in cyberspace. He promised to resend them. I will try and get it right next time.. Ok, now I have the stories: No. 1 son says: The neighbor across the street has a problem with bats in his barn. He has sealed up the barn the best he can but the bats still seem to come and go as they please. No. 1’s young cats (I think that means Boots and Bella) have become quite the bat catchers. They don’t kill the bats, that would be too easy, they bring them home alive and come into the house via the kitty door, where all of them come and go as they please. About once a week, one of the cats bring home a live bat and drop it in the living room or at times, bring it back to the bed room to let it go. Now it gets exciting with a live bat flying all over the house and four extremely excited cats trying to catch it. I (he says) have worn myself out trying to catch those (expletive) bats. Not to mention being critiqued by the wife on just how a bat should be caught. I know the cats have had their rabies shots. I”m wondering (he says) if I should get one…..That’s a great story no. 1 son…..One other story: A few Sunday morning back he let the cats out so they both could sleep late. A few minutes later there was this ruckus in the living room, as one of the cats had brought in a dead bird. Since the damage was already done, he jumped back in bed…An hour or so later they got up to a living room full of feathers and one naked dead bird……One other story: Boots loves to be outside and will stay outside for hours on end (personally, I think she is catting around, but that’s just grandpa) Once she was gone for two days. The other cats love outside also but they check in every hour or so. Boots was given a locator collar to wear. Now, when trying to locate her, the collar starts beeping, and at first, she ran further away. After a while, she came to understand that it’s time to come home when it beeps and she responds accordingly….Now all is well with Boots…….Well, there you have it folks, no. 1 and spouse do love their kitty cats and the kitties love them…Thanks, no. 1, that was a good story and I can just picture you running around in your undershorts trying to net the bats, especially with someone sitting on the couch telling you how to do it…..funny, funny…..Grandpa
