I have had trouble in trying to post the letter of F. Corina Barker. I am going to let her letter be this post via copy and paste…I hope….
“The person who is writing this letter is another immigrant who is the same as the ones that wrote the letters published last June 6th, 2010. The difference in my letter is that I am not in the same condition that the ones that are having illegal immigration status. I would like to express my disappointment because of the abuse of this “Immigrant” term/concept. We all have the right to seek a better life, the best for our children, and the right to improve ourselves as better human beings. In my opinion, entering illegally to this country is the same as entering illegally to any ones house, living and consuming the resources that keep this country standing by itself.
I took the same decision many years ago, when I had the chance to move to this wonderful country. Regardless of the circumstance that occured in my situation, I never intended to stay illegally nor to use its resources without giving back what is right and keeping my respect of the culture and language that makes this country stand out in the world. The right thing to do is to stand in the line at the American embassies around the world and apply for a resident visa, since the idea is to move permanently to here. If you do not acquire the requirements to be granted a visa, work hard to pursue this commitment, otherwise, do not come and take for free what we all work hard to benefit the country. Do not expose your love ones to the risk to die or to live in the dark.
Stay in the line, pay your fees, wait for your turn, learn the language, and learn the history, because this is why you are here. I see immigrants that are living in this country, keeping their “culture” and living in the same way they were living in their original countries. That is not “being an Immigrant.” I think an immigrant should stand to offer what the country needs of us, to study and become certify in what you do. This country works in different ways from other countries. I read one comment where the person stated “They are professionals and have degrees in their original countries.” I too was a professional when I move here but having the status gave me no special treatment I still have to follow the rules and laws of the country. I recently received a Masters Degree in Special Ed from NMSU, and I am hoping to work for the State of New Mexico. What gives me a sense of feeling of extreme pride is that I accomplished this legally. I am also a naturalized citizen”.

In today’s, Albuquerque Journal, June 18, Letters to the Editor, Fabiana Barker says “I am another immigrant, the difference is I am not in the same condition as the ones with illegal immigration statue. In my opinion, entering illegally to this country is the same as entering illegally to someone’s house”. She goes on, “We all have the right to seek a better life, the best for our children and to improve ourselves as better human beings. I made the same decision many years ago when I have the chance to move to this wonderful country……The right thing to do is to stand in line at the American embassies around the world and apply for a resident visa, since the idea is to move permanently….She stresses further..”Stay in line, pay your fees, wait for your turn, learn the language and learn the history, because this is why you are here…..Several more nice comments are made but in closing there is this nice paragraph…”I recently recieved a master’s degree from New Mexico State University and I am hoping to work for the state of New Mexico. What gives me a sense of feeling of extreme pride is that I accomplished this legally.”The letter is signed, Fabiana Barker, Cloudcroft, NM. …Folks you can read all of the letter in the June 18th issue of the Albuquerque Journal. How nice it is to read of someone who did it the correct way, did the wait, paid the price and appreciates the American way of life. God bless the Fabiana Barker’s in America and thank you for being a beacon to others wanting to enter America the right way, the lasting way. Fabiana, I enjoyed reading your letter very much. Thank you….Pete Hester ps…Tonight I had a telephone conversation with Ms. Barker. She stated that the Albuquerque Journal had edited her letter due to space constrictions. She sent me her letter in it’s entirety which you can read in the post bearing her name above. Pete Hester

Back in the mid-80’s I spent a little time in Florida. My wife and no. 3 son came to visit me for a while. They flew into Tampa and we drove over to Disney World, the Kennedy Space Center and spent the night on the beach in the Cape Canaveral area. We walked the beach that evening. The beaches were nice but the Atlantic was angry and the waves were running six feet or so. The next day we drove over to Sarasota, visited the beaches on the Gulf of Mexico side. I can never forget the beautiful white sandy beaches and the turquoise colored water, so beautiful with the gentle waves of the Gulf tenderly caressing the shores. How inviting that was to these three desert dwellers…..Now, with the crude oil slowly heading toward those shores saddens me and I am sure it is the same for anyone who has ever visted those shores. BP does not have enough money to replace that, should we lose it…And the wonderful seafood we enjoyed while there, irreplaceable…In the back of my mind as I think back on the 4.00 per gallon gas and I also said, “let get that oil under the gulf”. While working for a Texas company we often took customers out fishing and tied up to some of the rigs and did some snapper fishing. I always though it was completely safe to pump that oil into waiting tankers or pipelines or whatever….Now, I feel quilty for having thought that way…..We need our seas, our oceans, our fish and crustaceans…Foreign oil, purchased without strings is the best way to go is what I am thinking now. Let us reconsider the underwater drilling….What a mess…Can you imagine a Hurricane the size of Katrina coming in now? What in the world will that be like….Yeah, I promised to be a “stuff writer” and stay away from issues….File this under messy crude oil stuff….Pete

I’m sad….No Utah Utes in the Mountain West…We wish them well in the PAC 10…We will miss them in football, but we will really miss them more in basketball. Over the years there have really been some good basketball games between New Mexico and Utah, men and women…I hate to see them go…Money calls…

Some of the things I have enjoyed about New Mexico is the cool nights. Once the sun goes down it gets cool. We leave covers on the bed year round due to the night time cold. Some mornings the patio is too cool to have breakfast on it. The other morning things were just right for eating breakfast on the patio and I could not talk the other household member into eating out there. But we did leave the door open to the patio and enjoy the cool breeze coming into the kitchen…. The paper stated the other day that June 15th starts the monsoon season. If it hits and the afternoon humidity picks up could change some of that patio dining deal. Our monsoon varies, sometimes we get some good moisture…sometimes empty promises…The paper thinks maybe heavy this year…We will see…Us getting some moisture is kind of like the Mountain West going to a BCS Bowl….Could happen, but not likely….

Have you noticed that the sports page is more interesting now that we have reports of all the teams moving around? Maybe each year, between football and basketball, we could have the conferences recruiting period, April through July…That would fill the gap on our sports page.
I did watch some of the baseball today and I enjoyed it. The college world series will be good so I don’t want to give that a bad rapt, but my joy is college football and college basketball. Conference recruiting could fill the void….Pete

Look out for INCOMING……Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Aggie and Texas Tech have all been mentioned somewhere as a possible choice or selection, however you say it, for the Mountain West….Not Baylor, TCU will vote NO on Baylor (goes back to the break up of the Southwest Conference and joining the Big 12). But, forget football for a second and think basketball….Kansas, Kansas State, well all of those are good basketball schools…If we can land a couple of those boys, wow, look out world, the MWC is gonna be T-O-U-G-H. As in bad….Bring ‘um on……

Man, I had just gotten all the teams and conferences figured out, now this….What are we gonna do folks?…..Colorado in the PAC 10, I guess now it’s the PAC 11…that kind of hangs up on your tongue, don’t it….BIG 11, is it Nebraska and Missouri, if so the BIG 12 becomes the BIG 10 and the BIG 10 becomes the BIG 12. …and Boise State to the Mountain West….Hold on to your hats ’cause I think it is just started….Every team wants to be in the SEC….Here’s what we can do….Have the SEC-east, SEC-west, SEC-north, and the SEC-south….You don’t win 10 games in any season and you go to one of those other conferences…win 10 games three years in a row and you are eligible for re-admittance…..Well, yeah, I know you guys are gonna come down on me for this so let me say, I’m an Alabama fan, always have been, always will be….That said, I really get tired of all the sports writers and reporters inability to see any teams other than SEC teams. Maybe a good jumbling of conferences will help us all….who is to say, huh?..not me for sure..I just hope the Mountain West will get a little respect…Boise State might help…TCU, BYU, Utah, and now Boise State is four pretty fair ball clubs. Now if we can get Texas Tech interested, wow, that makes a good conference, right? Can we start the ball rolling on Texas Tech joining the Mountain West? Talk it up and let’s see if it goes anywhere…..Can’t hurt, can it?….
