I wanted to put a couple of chapters of my Bernie and Them book on the web site….Come to find out I don’t have the PDF conversion on my new e machine. No. 3 son told me of a free site for a pdf conversion, I did download it and converted those chapters to Adobe pdf and when I put them on the web site a block came up with a Abode Reader note with an OK block and when you click on the ok, it will go away but no story appears. I am not enough of a computer man to know what the heck to do at this point…..If and when I do get it figured out I may put all of Bernie and Them on the web site in installments. I know you guys can hardly wait…..But, really it is a pretty good story and if you guys have some time during the day or evening to read a chapter, well, heck, its cheap, clean and funny but  probably not at all educational…..maybe one of these days I will have it available for you…Pete

Susana Martinez, Governor of New Mexico

We have a new governor, a female, born in El Paso, lives in Las Cruces and educated at the University of Oklahoma….Yep, I voted for her…I kinda liked the way she talked…Reading about her in Ruben Navarrette’s column this morning left me feeling a little, oh, I don’t know how to describe it…I just thought of her as an American girl running for office…He says she is a Latino….I looked in Webster’s but it did not tell me what a Latino was….So, Ruben, should I be worried…Is she not 100% American….Well, I think she is and you are just giving her a name to boost your own ego, something like  “me too” crap…Because I am English, Irish, Scotch, oh yeah, with a little Choctaw Indian, what does that make me, a Europenochotoean. There are a whole bunch of folk around here that has a blood line longer than your arm….most of them are 100 % American….That’s what I am saying Mrs. Martinez is and I would be willing to bet that she gives the Mexican Flag and Mexican Government no more than common courtesy…She has already come down on issuing drivers licenses to non-residentsof the state and I think illegal residents will be dealt with severely. When you and the press hang a name like that on our governor it is almost like putting her on a guilt trip if she votes on anything other than the way you want her to….I am glad she is of Mexican descent. She is a lovely person. She can be a good governor and I think she will be and will  represent all the residents of the state of New Mexico, even us Europenochotoeans……

Rehabilitation: HealthSouth

A few weeks ago a friend fell and broke his hip and I guess his thigh bone as he had to have a pen down into his leg. He rehabilitated at HealthSouth. Last week, a friend of the family had a stroke and he chose HealthSouth. I visited with both of them while they were receiving therapy. HealthSouth is a good place…Friendly folks, good food and they push the patients to get on the road to recovery. No laying around for those folks and yet they seem to have the respect of all the patients there. They have the Rehabilitation Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Neuro-Psychology, Respiratory Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Dietary and Nutritional Counseling and a Case Manager for the patient and family. We had a meal one day last week and found the food to be very good. According to the HealthSouth’s web site they have over 1800 locations. Here at Albuquerque, they have really taken good care of both of these folks…I hope you or a family member never need rehabilation , but if you do I think it would be hard to beat HealthSouth…..Pete

Worst College Football Coaches (see footnote)

I goggled the worst college football coaches….I was kind of surprised the names that came up, and I am not saying I agree or disagree, but to name a few of those listed: Wannstedt, Pittsburg: Friedgen, Maryland: Stewart, West Virginia: Ron Zook, Illinois…….Now that name rings a bell….Let me see…..oh yeah, New Mexico hired his exciting offensive coordinator for the Lobos head coach two years ago….Well, I did not look up Zook’s record to see how many he games he won in his first two years as head coach but I happen to know Locksley’s……….one win and eighteen losses…..Man I hope our coach can turn things around soon…I wondered if anyone is considering replacing him?….Naw, probably not….New Mexico is a basketball school, huh?…….That’s what I have heard anyway… DID YOU SEE THE ILLINOIS MICHIGAN GAME SATURDAY? 67 to 65….triple overtime….Ron Zook’s team almost won that game….Now I am wondering about the goggle saying he was one of the worst coaches in America….best, good, sorry, worst…its all a matter of opinion, huh?…I don’t know how good Zook is, but he is certainly not the worst, this blogger just wants to correct that, ok?…Pete

Saying NO…

Posted by Pete | Posted in News | Posted on 30-10-2010

It has really been hard for me to say no at times…Especially if I really like someone and want to please them, but the older I get the more I realize that many times the best things to do is just say no…NO…..Some of our democratic friends up for elections need a no vote….Not all of them….Some of our republican friends need a no vote….Not all of them….It has become necessary for the voters to keep up with the way our elected officials are conducting themselves in Washington and in our state capitals….One term may be enough….I don’t know, they may just become corrupt quicker….Saying No to drugs and alcohol and smoking is really hard for our youth, thanks to TV and some of the programs going into the homes across America…What a mess, huh?….How will Mexico ever get out of the fix they are in because they have the drugs and the people across the border in America has the money and such a high demand for drugs….Saying NO has to be the answer…And as long as people can beg, borrow or steal money to pay for them, it will remain a problem….I used to have customers in Mexico in the 1990’s and went across the border several times a year to visit and entertain those customers….Now, there is no way I would go across. I would not have a problem saying, NO sir, to a boss who would ask me to go across the border today… Does anyone go across any more?….. And saying NO to unethical behavior in the work place and government jobs…I am sure some folks still are ethical, but one rotten apple really spoils the barrel…Pay to play…. what a hot game in New Mexico, probably most of the states have the same problem….We have to learn how to say NO to any rotten deal…It ain’t easy  being negative, well, it seems like negative, but no to all that bad crap, no is really a positive…can I get a AMEN on that?….I don’t know for sure what prompted this post tonight but I think it came from reading this morning’s paper and listening to today’s news…..Who was the lady that sang, “We sure could use, a little good news today.”…..We still can…

Whass’up with the Cowboys?…..Romo out for a while…That’s not good….Alabama is idle this week, Auburn whips up on Mississippi I imagine….Air Force loses to Utah….Arizona beat UCLA…..Arkansas beats Vandy….Texas wins one at home and beats Baylor but it is close….New Mexico is coming up in the world, did you notice?…Colorado State is only favored by 16.5 points over the Lobo’s, but the Lobo’s will beat the spread….NMSU is not favored against  San Jose St, but they are capable of beating them…ok, I’ll pick NMSU to win…..there I feel better…

By the way, I am liking this e-machine…did a few up grades and it is an excellent buy…Right now I feel good about it…fast and easy to use….Pete

Cody Ross, MVP

Wow, MVP of the National Leaque playoff series….I spoke to number one son in Carlsbad today and he and some Carlsbad friends watched the game and a great time was shared by all and all were very excited about Cody and the job he is doing. I have never been a fan of the San Francisco Giants until this year….They picked up Cody and they picked up a bunch of New Mexico fans….I have kind of always liked the Texas Rangers, but I will have to pull for the Giants this year….Way to go, Cody…Keep up the good work…..

Since none of you readers expressed concern about the e-machines I decided to give one a try. I lost a lot of stuff on my old computer last week. I will get back in the groove soon. I will do some more post at a later time as I grow accustomed to this machine……well, its “later” enough. It seems to work about as well as my old computer, seems a little faster but I still need to download some of my flash drive info into my documents….probably not nearly as much as I used to have. So far though, so good…..I hope it works out…Pete

Coal Fire (AL) Baptist Church, What is going on?

Tell me what is happening at Coal Fire Baptist Church, Coal Fire, AL. Is everything ok there? I should hope so but I hear they are looking for a preacher…Probably need to start praying, huh?…That church is pretty special so we need someone special to preach there…If you read my downloads, Chapter Six from my book Cousins, “Big Momma”, that is the church I am talking about. The church where my granddaddy died one Sunday night. The church that I, and a bunch of my kinfolks, were saved . They used to do the baptising down at the Bridge across Coal Fire Creek on Hwy 82. That’s where Big Momma was baptised, where us cousins were baptised..Yeah, I called it Middle Creek and I wish now I would have called it’s real name…It just “don’t get no better than “Coal Fire Creek” now does it.” Anyway, that church has been through a lot, lot of folks been through that church….How many families have called that church home? Now let me see if I can recount some of the names: Collier, McCool, Bonner, Bishop, Davidson, Darling, Estes, Burgess, Bell, Hester, Bates, and several families with the same last name attending at the same time, and I am sure there were a lot before me and a more after me, maybe my buddy THE BISHOP OF POSSUM TOWN can name a few more folks…Anyway, praying is always in order…It won’t hurt for us to talk it up a little, will it? That’s where our roots are…..We have to….
