The Oscars or any awards show, for the most part, is not something I care to watch. Sports, news, an occasional movie and American Pickers or some of the car rebuild shows are about it for me. I don’t know who wins what and quite frankly really don’t care. Of course, that does not mean it is not important to some folks or even a lot of folks. And to some, if things do not go their way, they are going to boycott them. I don’t think one should be judged by his or her color, win or lose and I dang sure don’t think you should go to playing the race card because you did not win….Hollywood is the most liberal place on earth and if ever a minority had a chance anywhere it most probably would be Hollywood. So in my mind, if a fellow did not win, he was not deserving….and if he wants to boycott them, well, just have at it mister…see you whenever you decide to show up. It is ok…

I still get inquires on the Nudist Baptist Church, Tyler, Tx that I posted a few years ago. I heard it was a hoax later so I may have aided someone hoping to cause trouble or just get some publicity. I hope not…But anyway, here is my later posting that I had hoped all of Tyler, Tx would see, especially the Christian community. I am a Baptist by birth, or maybe I should say rebirth and have a deep love for Jesus. No harm was ever intended….so my Tyler brothers and sister, my love to you all….

You know, I did a post on the Calvary Nudist Baptist Church, Tyler, TX, then a couple of days later I did an update to mention the good folk at The Calvary Baptist Church, Tyler, TX, but I didn’t really finish the story like I should have. First, my son and his family used to live there…He worked in a paint store and some of the folks in the painting business may remember him…He loved it there and I was down to see him a few times…We fished in some of the lakes around there, a wonderful place to fish, several nice lakes in the area…We met some of his neighbors and I think his family may have a few friends left there. It is a good town, a nice place to raise a family and very nice people. I truly hope my publishing the bit on the Nudist Church, which may be a hoax, did not come across as negative from me because I never intended for it to sound that way…Anyway, folks down Tyler way, I know you and know about you and forgive me if I produced any negative publicity for your beautiful city….thanks, Pete Hester

Randy Harrison, Albuquerque Journal Sports Editor wrote an interesting article in today’s paper, Jan 17, 2016, “Disparity in college football only gets worse”. You can read the article for your self if you would like to read the article online. It poses an interesting idea. Could a coach like Saban come to a losing program like New Mexico State and field a winning team. It pointed out that Coach Saban makes around 7 million a year, the football program at Bama brings in about 97 million a year and it spends about 51 million per year. Average attendance is 101,821 per game. New Mexico State had to take money from Learfield Sports to buy tickets to maintain the 15,000 paid attendance necessary to remain in the FBS Div. I program. The NMSU athletic department spends about 6.4 million on it’s football program and worries that they may have to drop down to playing Div II program. …..The article went on to ask if the GOAT (greatest coach of all time) come into a school like NMSU and turn their football program around. The goat reference was to the fact that if the onsides kick had not worked in the championship game, Coach Saban could have been the goat instead of the GOAT. …. Lack of money, lack of good recruits willing to come there, lack of fans in a town of roughly 80,ooo folks and many who think that schools are for education and not about athletics are real negatives. If any coach was willing to come in for less money, willing to accept the challenge and salesman enough to change some folks, the answer is yes, he could. I don’t think there will ever be a current head coach that would do that. But there are some mastermind young assistant coaches out there that could turn the program but the larger question is, could they keep them after they started winning? Probably not. Well, Coach Saban, do you want to give all that up and come on down to Las Cruces, NM? Oh, by the way, the town is located a few miles up the road from El Paso, TX if you are wondering. And the real question asked there daily is, “Red or Green”…..Oh, and that question is about chilies… It has ideal weather, Coach, and the living is easy…Come on down….

Big Alabama Football Fan
I was watching Alabama play in the national championship game Monday night and got to thinking about one of the biggest Alabama football fan I grew up with, Pop loved the Tide. He talked about listening to the 1925 & 1926 Rose Bowl games on the radio & then going to Tuscaloosa to see them get off the train after winning the National Championship games. He talked about listening when Johnny Mack Brown made that great catch in the 1931 Rose Bowl. I guess between him and my uncles Sam & Pete, they are the reasons I love football & specially ALABAMA football so much.
Back in the early 1960’s Alabama football was not on the TV every weekend, maybe once or twice a year. But they were on the radio, and at the time the best radio Pop had was in the car, so he and I would get in and listen ( him letting me start it up very 15 to 20 minutes to keep the battery charged) to the Tide Roll. Now Pop loved Bama winning but he didn’t like for Bama to lose, as none of Bear Bryant’s teams didn’t lose many times. If Alabama did get behind, Pop would get out of the car saying something about Bear Bryant needing to do better. He would be gone about 15 minutes, come by and ask me ” how they doing now ?”, if we were still losing he would leave again, only to come back again in another 15 to 20 minutes. But if they were back ahead or driving for a score, he would get back in the car to listen some more. We talked a lot listening to those games, about many things but mostly football, Alabama Football. I really enjoyed listening to those games with him, and watching one on TV was great, he would talk to the coaches & players about what he thought they needed to be doing.
He would love it now that they are on TV every week, and the way Coach Saban has them winning games and National Championships.
Pop got to listen to or see the first 12 of Alabama 16 national championships……
He loved football, Pickens County High School football and Alabama football. He saw his brother-in-laws, sons, nephews, and grandson play for the Tornadoes. I don’t know about the earlier games, but Uncle Pete’s and my games at PCHS, he was always standing by the fence in the north end zone. I bet at the other games he was in that spot.
And yes, Uncle Pete I was young but I remember going to your games at PCHS…”.
Dan Hall is writing about his Grandpa and my Dad, D. W. Hester and he was a big fan…He did not take Bama losing very well at all. Thanks, Dan, good story….

Okay…..The federal government gave New Mexico governing body another 2 years to fix their drivers license to where they can be used for a real id…for airline travel, for entry to military installations, etc. Right now New Mexico issues drivers license to it’s citizens as well as illegal immigrants. You are probably asking who would approve or want such a drivers license. Well, that is complements of ex-governor Bill Richardson. He was concerned about their safety, well, that and he wanted…..whoa, hold on…I was going to say kin folks to be able to drive but that would be unfair to say that about Bill as I really don’t know….I do not know why the man would want to do that. And the action rendered the USA citizens that live in New Mexico of any proof that they are in fact citizens of the United States of America….Crazy. Well, now our state senate has two years to rectify the situation. In New Mexico, two years is not enough. Our present governor, Governor Martinez, has been trying since she has been in office to get that changed. Trying to get a permit type license for the immigrants, but no, our state congress will not do it. Our governor is a Republican you see. Only a Democrat can unchanged what a Democratic Governor makes as law. Well, that may not be a real fact either, but it sure seems like it…..But, really folks, I don’t think we can get it done in two years and us folks who wish to travel or visit a military installation better get us a passport if we want a real I. D. It’s very sad…It’s just the way it is around here…..

According to Betsy Blaney of the Associated Press writing in today’s, 1/1/16, Albuquerque Journal: The snow storm in New Mexico and West Texas last weekend has killed approximately 30,000 cows. Those dairies around Lubbock, Muleshoe, and Friona, Texas account for nearly 40% of the milk production in Texas. Those dairies figure they lost about 15,000 mature cows. Also, an agent with New Mexico State University’s extension service said the area around Clovis, NM lost approximately 20,000 cows. The snow was a big reason for the deaths but the wind was the real villain, blowing drifts of up to 14 feet where many of the animals died. Wind pushed the animals into a fenced corners where they would bunch up and suffocate in those snow drifts. Employees could not reach the farms to do the milking and tanker trucks could not get to the dairies to haul the milk. When the cows are not milked they lose the capacity to produce milk as it dries up their milk production and will affect milk production for some time to come….. The Texas producers are working with state environmental officials to find ways to dispose of the carcasses. Some counties are allowing producers to put carcasses in their landfills. The loss of the mature cows and their milk production loss is costly to those dairy farmers and will greatly affect all those communities. Hopefully they will be able to recover from this terrible winter storm.

I am a Cowboy fan….Winning (preferred), losing (GASP), quarterback problems, defensive problems, O line problems…..no problem…I’m a fan…Do I miss Tom Landry? Roger the Dodger, Bob Hays, Dandy Don, Leroy Jordan, Randy White, Tony Dorset, Moose Johnson, Cliff Harris, Charlie Waters, and all those other terrific players? You dang betch’a……but I remain a fan when its not so good….when the no-bodies are out there giving it their all, when we cannot hold on to a lead, when we cannot stop the pass rush or stop the running game or whatever else comes up….I’m a fan. When Romo is hurt and Dez is hurt..or bitching, I’m a fan. This year I figured it would be our year….Well, “That’s The Way Love Goes”…. Next year folks, watch out…The cowboys will be back. I love “um…..I’m a fan. I started loving them with Eddy Labaron, our 5″6” quarterback on the original team, back in the sixties. Talk about “coming up short” but what a scrappy bunch….It don’t get no better than the Cowboy’s. Always exciting. Something always going on. I’m a fan, folks, I’m a Cowboy fan…..
